Doubt on QA Refresh

Hi Gurus,

I am doing QA refresh with PRD data. Here i was following below steps before.

DB:MS SQL Server 2005

1.Take a Full backup on PRD.

2. Perform Pre-Refresh steps on QA

3. Restore on QA

4. Run STM tool for database copy completion

5. Perform post refresh steps

Above steps i have followed earlier But am going to perform refresh on ECC6.0 EHP5 and i have one doubt here at step 4.

As per Note 683447 - SAP Tools for MS SQL Server 

• Perform a system copy using the detach/attach or backup/restore method.
  This only applies to SAP systems based on kernel 6.40 or lower. If you have an SAP system based on kernel 7.0 or higher, you must perform the system copy with SAPinst.

Since we are on 720 kernel version database tool is not recommended and SAP is suggesting to use sapinst tool.

If i run SAPInst it will ask for kernel and crypto-graphic  and other information and again it will install SAP, am bit confused here shall i use database tool ot SAPInst to complete refresh?

please suggest me.

Hi Venkat,

You can perform as follows.

This is what we used to do in my system.

1. De-attach the DB from the source system.

2.Start the SAPINST

3.Use de-attach/attach method

4.Delete the target system DB

5.attach the DB in the target system.

6.Dont extract the executables.. You will get an option to select the executables to extracted.. Uncheck all the options.

7.SAPINST will perform the follow up activites only. There wont be any change in the system. Schema changes will be done by SAPINST;

It is pretty simple way too.

as per you suggestion i will un check options in screen1(here attached )

but i have one more doubt we don't have Diagnosis Agent installed in QA earlier  and now SAPInst is installing it, so it is asking for uncar executables( please refer screen2 attachment), what should i do?

please guide me.

Uncheck all the options in Screen 2 too.

It won't install anything...
