support pack related

Hello Friends,

I have just installed SAP ECC 6 EHP 6 ABAP system based on NW 7.0 EHP 3. Linux x86_64 with Oracle 11.2.0.3.

Now i need to update support packs to the latest level being the part of post installation. I used mopz/solman to calculate SP stack, which has generated stack.xml.

It says three product version

ECC6 EHP 6 with target stack 5

NW 7.0 EHP3 with target stack 5

ERP 6 target stack 22

My question is in what sequence i should update the support pack. Which component should go first, if i wish to apply support packages through SPAM? Can i use stack.xml components sequence and define the queue in spam as it is displayed in stack.xml?

If i use SUM, is that the correct option to fill my new installed system with SPS?

I am looking for expert advices and steps which i should follow to update my support package level appropriately.

Regards

Hi,

The standard tool to install Support Packages Stacks for

SAP Business Suite 7 Innovation 2011 systems is  Software Update

Manager(SUM).

For SPS stack import you should use stack XML file to apply entire stack at the same time

as the components have been tested to be compatible and if generated correctly

will meet all the import conditions for support packages included.

Can i use stack.xml components sequence and define the queue in spam as it is displayed in stack.xml?

You can try to do this also as SPAM is tool designed specifially for SP import process.

Hi Aidan,

If we use SUM, will it automatically includes igshelper and igsexe as well, which are the part of stack.xml? I guess those files should be applied manually, isn't it?

Is there any how to guide for SUM, i am not aware to use this tool on linux.

Hi,

The SUM guide for UNIX/LINUX that can be used is:

https://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700000783532011E

As per note 1643916 it appears that while the igshelper is downloaded

when upgrading that it will not be deployed and this can be done manually as indicated.

Hey Aidan,

Thanks for your helpful link.

I have another question how SUM picks the SPs files? i mean from which directory, as i know it doesn't require uncar of SAR files, it will uncar itself, if i have downloaded SP Stack as per stack xml file in a directory including stack.xml file and i have given path of that location to tell it that stack.xml is saved there, will it pick all sps SAR files from there or i should uncar them manually in EPS/in? This is bit confusing.

Just for information sake.. i have uncarred SUM in another directory instead of usr/sap/SID and i'll run from there, and i have made a package directory where all downloaded patches(SAR files) are stored.

Will you explain it a bit?

Thanks - vicks

Hi Vick

Please review section below from earlier link:

5.11 Making Entries for the Select Target Roadmap Site

I would recommend that the SAR files and the stack xml be placed in your EPS inbox

as this is the default location for SUM tool.

If you do not wish to use the EPS inbox then this is not a problem as:

"The Software Update Manager prompts you to make additional packages such as add-on upgrade packages (SAINT packages) that are required for the upgrade available in the specified directory. "

You can specify preferred directory and as you mention it should not be necessary to manually UNCAR all the SPS as long as the .SAR files are made available to SUM.

Hi Aidan,

I have updated SPS successfully through SUM. Now what follow up activities i need to carry out, i just gone through SUM sp6 guide, it says number of activities.

But i think only SPAU and SGEN is relevant, isn't it?

Since my system is newly installed and only SPS update carried out not upgrade, and only two objects needs to be adjusted with SPAU as message info appeared before SUM finished.

So i have a question, do i stiil need to carry over follow-up activities for user root, oracle specific dba role update etc..

Please advice.

Thanks- vicks

Hi,

As per the guide:

Actions Before Restarting Production Operation

1.You perform the follow-up activities for user root
2.You perform the database-specific actions . Among others, you create
or update the SAPDBA role, check the environment variables for BR*Tools,
and back up the database. if necessary. <
3.You call transaction SPAU to adjust modifications to Repository
objects
4.You update the where-used list, if necessary.
5.You check the configuration of Secure Network Communications
6.You activate business functions , if necessary. <

SGEN should also be executed after SP stack update.

Hi Aidan,

I have a specific questions:

Regarding user root follow up activities, it says run ./oraroot sh <sapsid> and cp icmbnd.new to icmbnd.. i didn't include kernel upgrade in SPS update, it was done before it, still i need to follow this procedure?

while running SPAU, i don't get any object which requires modification.. is there anything that i need to choose to see the objects? Please advice.

Hi,

These steps include the instruction:

Step 6.1 is not conditional on having performed kernel update

6.2 Oracle: Performing Specific Actions

Release upgrade only:

6.3 Performing Follow-Up Activities in the Monitoring Area

This step is only relevant if you perform a release upgrade.

6.4 Performing Follow-Up Activities for the SAP Kernel.
This step is only relevant if you perform a release upgrade.
If you follow instructions from step 6.6 and see no objects for adjustment
then this follow-up step has been completed.

Thanks Aidan,

I am also following SUM release notes with your advice.

Now there is a scenario with SPAU, where i can see the migration objects, need your expert advice on it?

Migration Object

   --> Enhancement Spots

        -->AUNITMIG1

            Sources

           AUNITMIGI1           <unknown>  21.02.2013 <unknown>  Include AUNITMIGI1

        -->ENHAUNITSPOTL1

            Sources

         ENHAUNITOBJ2L1   <unknown>    21.02.2013 <unknown> Include ENHAUNITOBJ2L1

these are with red traffic light.. do i need to do anything here? FYI this ECC6 including EHP6 which i have installed, now i have just updated SP stack as calculated by SOLMAN

Apart from this i found obselete correction notes which i have reset.

Hi,

Both migration entries belongs to objects which are used for SAP

internal unit-tests. That´s why you can ignore these objects in SPAU.

It will not affect your daily work and your processes.

Aidan
