Hey experts!
Currently I´m writing my bachelor thesis and want to write a short paragraph about the DIAG protocol. But I can´t find any good description.
Can anyone help me? Thx.
Oliver
Hi,
Normally/commonly the Diagnostic Responder (DIAG) protocol is useful in analyzing NetWare LANs.
DIAG can be used for connectivity testing, configuration and information gathering.
The DIAG request packet structure is as under
Exclusion address count (1 byte)
Exclusion address 0 (6 bytes)
Exclusion address 79 (6 bytes)
If Exclusion address count =0 it means all the stations should respond.
The DIAG response packet structure is as under
Major/minor version
SPX diagnostic socket
Component count
Component type
In sap terms DIAG is
Dynamic Information and Action Gateway: Protocol for communication
between SAP GUI and the application server (also known as the SAP GUI protocol).
This is also used when there is flow of data between the presentation layer and application layer
so that the flow don not consists of any prepared screens rather it conains onlylogical data,
compact inf about control elements and user input and the
amount data transferred is kept to minimum
Use of this in SAP is documented at the following links:

More resources is available on the net pl check.
Hope this can be a start for your quest.
If useful encourage by awarding points.

Hello Oliver,
what kind of description you are looking for?
I have serious doubts that definition/documentation of the DIAG-protocol has been published outside of SAP.
Best regards
Rolf-Martin
