Hi,
Had a small issue understanding a scenario involving how an item starts from the company plant all the way to a customers doorstep.
Item ordered ( Generator )
Question 1: Item is picked and packed in a large carton ( as per SAP the picking and packing time come from the shipping point ) Now for example shipping point is a railway station. Even if the shipping point is an airport the picking time should be the same( as per common sense) as that of the railway station because after all the same item is picked
here. The packing time can be different and understandable because a train and an aircraft can require different packing materials or standards.
Question 2: Item is loaded manually (by workers) onto the train (example) with various other items( as per SAP loading time comes from the shipping point which again obviously means that the loading is done at the railway station and the loading time can change if the loading was to be done in an aircraft.
What is transportation lead time then ?
Question 3: As per SAP a route is used to determine the transit time. Understandable because a particular route can take 4 hours of transit time from point A to B whereas a slightly longer route can take 5 hours of transit time to reach the from point A to point B. Route is also used to determine the transportation lead time. What is meant by this sentence ??
Under Question 1 - what is the question?
Regarding lead time you might want to google 'transportation lead time site:sap.com' and read the top links. SAP Help seems quite clear to me and even has a nice picture.
