Characteristics and Characteristics Value.

Dears,

Can anybody tell me the difference between characteristics and characteristics value in Controlling CO-PA.

Dear Bikash,

characteristics are nothing but at what level (criteria) you want to maintain. (At what level u r going to analyze you operating concern result).

characteristics values are nothing but " At which criteria u r going to see ie: it may be product or region .

Means the values pertaining to the characterstics is called char values.

Hi Bikash and Naveen,

There is correction about characteristic values in naveen answer. He explained about value fields.

Characteristic values are nothing but lower level components of dimension.(The values pertaining to the characteristics)

Ex: If we say product is characteristic, then under that product "X" and "Product Y" will be the characteristic values.

Value field is nothing but, in that Dimension (characteristics) what you are going to analyse.

Ex: Revenue, sales qty, any expenses, etc.,

Characteristics > simply we can say at what level your going to analyze are called characteristics .

EX: customer, Product, product Group region, Geo Region Country, Segment, Plant, Sales org, Company code, Controlling area Product hierarchy,  Sales employee there are two type of characteristics

Fixed characterstics (sap defined 19 fixed cha)

Non fixed characterstics (user defined char) depends on the report structure )

CHARACTERISTICS VALUES

Characteristics values which are going to use only  for  those char having fixed set of possible values , it mean’s user defined characteristics only. The values pertains OR associated to the characteristics are called characteristics values.
