Dear gurus
We are planning SAP R/3 Enterprise virtualization which is running on w2003 32 bits (physical to virtual). As per note 1409608
virtualization for SAP releases based on R/3 release 4.6D and on SAP Web AS 6.20 are not supported on 32 bits. Technically SAR R/3 Enterprise is based on 6.20 (SAPKB62045) but is running with 6.40 kernel realese so a per note 1409608 always refers kernel based systems.
Do you think is neccesary change to 64 bits? Then we can´t use physical to virtual clonning mode.
Thanks in advance.
Marta
Yes the note says very clearly it is not supported. Moreover 2003 32 isn't worth to maintain.
You have to do a copy. We recently moved out of 2003 32 bit and it was a great positive experience.

the best way would be to setup a 64 bit system and do a SAP system copy to move to 64 bit, you can use standby DB method to minimize downtime(depending on your DBMS). Now you can retire the old system. if you want to keep the same hostname to ensure there is no impact to users, you can give the old name as alias to the new host.
