Hi SAPers,
As part of the NW 7.3 Ehp Pk 1 Implementation Planning - based on Inst Guide, Master Guid and Several SAP Notes + Input From SAP through OSS , what
we conclude is :
It is Advised to Go for Oracle 11.2.0.3 with 720_EXT Kernel for EP NW 7.31 with HP-UX 11.31 ia64;
However
- Direct Installation with 7.20_EXT Kernel is not possible, you have to update the kernel Post Installation !
Q is
- If the base Kernel is not 7.20_EXT during installation and if we try to Install Oracle 11.2.0.3 - how the installation can proceed without any
glitch related to not having 7.20_EXT Kernel during the installation ?
so,
- Pl. provide your inputs from the experience of EP NW 7.31 Installation with Oracel 11.2.0.3 - How did it go ?
#1. Was the installation successfull with base kernel as NON - 720_EXT Kernel AND Oracle 11.2.0.3 on NW 7.31 Platform ?
#2. Was System up and running Post Installation without 720_EXT Kernel Update or Immediate post Installation 7.20_EXT Kernel Update is
must and THEN ONLY System will be up and running (- this is obvious as 720_EXT is must for Oracle 11.2.0.3 ) ?
Alternatively :
As per PAM -- only Oracle 11.2 ver. is mentioned i.e. Oracle 11.2.0.2 or Oracle 11.2.0.3 ( ..no Granular Version Compatibility is Mentioned at
all ! ) i.e. Oracle 11.2 is compatible.
#3. To get rid of the Dillema of " Oracle 11.2.0.3 must have 720_EXT Kernel " ..can we go for Oracle 11.2.0.2 on EP NW 7.31 ?
( As per the PAM Answer for # 3 would be Yes but, just want to know the experience and inputs from the SAPers who have installed
Oracle 11.2.0.2 without EXT Kernel on NW 7.31 Portal )
Appreciate your inputs.
Thank You,
Best Regards,
- Ishan
I don't know where you are getting this information but in order to install NetWeaver Portal 7.31 on HP-UX 11.31/IA64 running Oracle 11.2 you don't have to worry about the EXT kernel. The requirements you have seen are for AS ABAP where as NetWeaver Portal is based on AS JAVA. The kernel on the installation media will do just fine. Even with AS ABAP, the kernel in the installation media will do fine. It can be replaced to the EXT kernel after installation, if required.
The Oracle 11.2 installation doesn't require any SAP kernel to be present.
