PI system Disk space full issue.

Hi experts,

We are running into PI system disk space filled up issue for quite long now. Our QAS system is processing around 50,000 small size messages a day and within a duration of 4-5 days, system runs into error due to disk space getting filled up.

We investigated this issue and found that the archive files were just getting created and kept sitting in the directory. In TCode SPRO, followed the path SPRO > SAP Reference IMG > Cross Applicaton Components > General Application Functions > Mass Data Archiving > Archiving Object-Specific Customizing. Here in object named 'BC_XMB' we found that under 'Delete Jobs' category 'Not scheduled' option was selected. We changed it to 'Start Automatically' hoping that this will help in automatically deleting the archive files stored in the system as previously it was not happening.

However, after making this change the archive job just runs for 1 second and no archive file is getting created and system still runs into disk space full error.

Any feedback on the changes just explained above or suggestions for solving this issue ?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Rasif,

You need to do Archiveing and deleting mechanism by setting retention periods  for your PI messages

for Archiveing and deleting mechanism please check the below link

http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/e0afdd69-a8a7-2d10-7e9a-cbf6fa21c...

A useful note in SAP is

706478 -  Preventing Basis tables from increasing considerably

Also check tables like

table ARFCSDATA

See SAP Note: 375566

If a PI system check tables: XI_AF_MSG_AUDIT,XI_AF_MSG,SXMSPMAST

and SAP Note 872388

Check if your batch job logs from SM37 are taking up alot of space. If job RSBTCDEL2 being run regularly?

also check the below link for ref

Hi Naveen,

We have followed the same procedure as mentioned in the link you provided. The only difference was of a radio button option which I explained in my original post.

Now I am thinking of reverting back to the original setting and see if the archive files get created in the '/Global' directory. May be then we need to go and manually delete those archived files from there.

Thanks
