dialog instance not appearing in SM51 after kernel upgrade

Former Member

Dear Fellows

We were upgrading our Production Systems kernel on Central and Dialog instance. Both instances were upgraded to kernel level 720 patch 401 and started successfully.

We were able to login successfully and run everything perfect in Central Instance. But the Issue came in when we tried loggin into Dialog instance. There was no entry of dialog instance appearing in SM51 of Central Instance. Moreover the dialog system got a license check error. We are however able to login using SAP* into the system but when we execute any tcode like SLICENSE or SM51 on Dialog instance, the system goes into hang state with no response.

Unfortunately, we had to revert back. But we need to go to do the kernel upgrade ASAP.

Anyone perhpaps can share the solution to this issue.

We have tried the following solution:

1. @Dialog instance : stopsap -> cleanipc 00 remove -> startsap [Status: didnt resolve the issue]

2. @Dialog instance : restarted the server [Status: didnt resolve the issue]

3. @Dialog instance : telnet <cent instan> 3900 [Status: returned ok, but issue remains]

Looking forward to your earliest solution please.

Thank you

Hello

trc file: "dev_w0", trc level: 1, release: "701"

I can see that the AS is still having the older kernel.

Please check this note.

Note 1636252 - Installing a 7.20 kernel in SAP Web AS 7.00/7.01/7.10/7.11

Please update the AS node with the 720 kernel in this location /usr/sap/PRD/D00/exe and restart it.

You probably can execute the sapcpe command against the instance profile as mentioned in the above note to do that.

Cheers

Apologies, i shared the current kernel file.

Please find the correct 720 log file attached.

The kernel has been updated in /sapmnt/ and /usr/sap/D00 directory.

Hello

You just provided the developer trace older than the previous one.

I suggest you to read this note clearly:

Note 1636252 - Installing a 7.20 kernel in SAP Web AS 7.00/7.01/7.10/7.11

From the trace file I can see that the Oracle client is outdated. Go through the note and check whether you meet all the requirements for 720 kernel. If yes stop all (SAP and Oracle)

Clean up the shared memory segments and also kill all the processes running under prdadm.

Once done update the kernel as suggested in the note.

Start SAP and AS's and check the trace.

Cheers

Hi,

Let me explain what I found from your logs.

from dev_w0 , i see that the issue  has occured in work process 2.

From dev_w2 , i see the following lines

  ***LOG Q16=> ThGetMsHwId, DpMBufHwIdGet (HWID_PENDING) [thxxmbuf.c   474]

M  *** ERROR => SlicKCheckLicense: did not get hwid from message server [slicch.c     321]

M  {root-id=005056B412B803D189D1BB1AB078C002}_{conn-id=00000000000000000000000000000000}_0

This issue is explained  in the note

Note 1562079 - Temporary license overwrites valid permanent license

Solution : please try to download the latest kernel  720 and latest patch too.

download the following.

1.Database independent

2.Database dependent

3. disp+work

4.lib_dbsl

Make sure these files are same in all the three exes as said before.

I hope it helps.

Thanks and Regards,

Please see the note

SAP Note 14754 - Profile parameters for buffer synchronization too

Set this profile rdisp/bufrefmode = sendon, exeauto on all the instances of the system, instances profile as well as in dialog instance profile too.

Thanks and Regards,

Vimal

In addition to my previous reply.

run this command as sidadm on all servers (CI and AS) and provide me the output.

sapcontrol -nr 00 -function GetVersionInfo

NB: Replace 00 with appropriate system number.

Cheers

Hi ,

Can you please share the dev_w0 log files of your application server?

Please make sure that the kernel levels are same in all three below locations.

1./usr/sap/SID/DV*/exe - CI

2./sapmnt/SID/exe

3./usr/sap/SID/D*/exe  - in apps server

Perform the following action.

1. Stop all the sap services & Db services.

2. Make sure that no sap or db services are running. Try ps -ef  | grep SID  and kill any SID services in both CI & APPS.

3. Cleanipc <instance number>

4. Start the DB & SAP Services and check.

If still the issue is not fixed, please attach the dev_w0 of apps to analysis further.

Thanks and Regards,

Vimal

Dear Vimal and RB,

Please find the logs attached.

(dev_w0 and dev_disp of dialog instance)

Dera Vimal

the kernel has been patched just like you've mentioned.

the cleanipc command was executed by making sure no process was running, still we're facing the issue.

Hi,

Yes RB is correct. I see that AS is not updated with the kernel.

That is the reason , in my previous message, I Have requested you to check whether the kernel patch level is same on all the system exes'.

Kindly update and ensure that the kernels are kept same .

Please do it and try again.

If stilll the issue, please attach the logs again.

Thanks and Regards,

Vimal
