Hai Kranthi,

Material, Routings, production versions, recipe are ECC terms. PPM is APO term.

Material is what you use for manufacturing let it be raw, semi finished, finished etc You can create, change and display in mm01,02&03 respectively.

Routing defines one or more sequences of operations for the production of a material. You create, change and display in ca01,02&03 respectively.

Production version: You use production versions to determine which alternative BOM is used with a routing to produce a material or create a master production schedule.

Master Recipe is process indiustry word for Bill of Materials (BOM).

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005/helpdata/en/89/a42162461e11d182b50000e829fbfe/frameset.htm

Routings has list of operations in which materials are manufactured. BOM (receipe) is list of materials required for the process.

PPM is combination of Routings and BOM in APO.

Need to do some PP reading.

Hope this helps.

Hello KP,

While Visu has provided links to the detailed documentation, i shall try to explain your question in brief.

Routing and recipe (in Process Industry) define the operations and activities that the component materials (input components in BOM) undergo in different resources (work center, labor, capacity) to produce the final product (out put component in the BOM). It provides the operation durations, inter-relationships as well.

BOM is self-explanatory.

For a product the Production Version links the BOM with the Routing/Recipe for different lot sizes and validity periods. Let me give an example - for producing say 1-100 units of a widget you want a certain manufacturing process using certain routing (different machines) which is defined as Production Version 0001, while in the same validity period you define another Production Version 0002 for producing 100+ units of widget using a different routing (because you use high-speed but costly machines requiring higher setup). So depending on the order quantity the appropriate Production Version is picked up and accordingly the Production Line (as defined in the routing/recipe) is chosen.

In APO PPM (Production Process Model) is linked to the Production Version of ERP and it contains both the BOM and Operation Details (from the routing, recipe). You transfer (through CIF) Production Versions from ERP to APO to create the PPMs.

Hope this clarifies your query.

Thanks,

Somnath
