JVM - when is it needed after running SAPinst

We are in the middle of moving all of our SAP systems from vendor JDK's to SAPJVM

It appears our TREX and Content Server systems only used the JDK to run the java based sapinst.

WHen is a JVM needed after running sapinst to install the system? .  Do we need to run the SAPJVM Switchtool on these systems.

Follow up question is in regards to system refresh using SAP system copy procedrues.

If I run the switch tool on my production erp system and do a source system export then attempt a target system install on a pristine server what JVM will I need to install so sapinst will run?

.

Hi Bill,

We also had the same scenario.  If your system is ABAP alone, then you can just download the SAPJVM version from the service market place and uncar it to a a folder. Then set the env JAVA_HOME to extracted to sapjvm location.

If your system is of JAVA , the you need to use the JVM switch tool

For both ABAP  and JAVA, you can use SAPJVM 4.1

In both ABAP & JAVA cases, please check the profiles to make sure that it is pointing to SAPJVM location ONLY

You can see the steps to work on sapjvm switch tool using the following link.

Information about the sap jvm switch tool is http://scn.sap.com/people/tom.cenens3/blog/2011/06/02/sapadmin-switching-to-sapjvm-4-for-sap-netweav...

I hope it helps.

THanks and Regards,
