Wrong relevant product instance in SMSY

Former Member

Hello,

we're on Solution Manager 7.1 SPS7 (SAPKB70211) and I have got a problem with a system in SMSY.

System was connected through RZ70/SLD - LMDB - SMSY.

System appears in SMSY correctly as product system SAP ERP Enhance Package (EHP6 for SAP ERP).

But in product instance selection the product instance "Discrete Ind. & Mill Products" is marked as relevant.

Ususally "ABAP Technology for ERP EHP6" should be marked, but I can't find any option to change this mapping.

If I go into change mode, system switches into LMDB, where I can't find the solution for this problem.

So my question is: how do I change relevant product instance in SMSY / LMDB?

Regards,

Julia

Hello,

"ABAP Technology for ERP EHP6" should usually not be marked.

I speak from experience, but  I should have a look at the software components in your EHP6 system to tell for sure.

I don't understand why product instance "Discrete Ind. & Mill Products" is marked as relevant.

Why not "Central Applications" or "ABAP Technology for ERP EHP6"?

Hello,

at plain sight I see

ECC-DIMP    606    0005    ECC-DIMP 606

This means either Discrete Industry & Mill Products or Defense must be marked as installed.

your system has got also product instance Central Applications. Central Applications covers more than ABAP Tech..., so it is always preferable if it is present. This is true in 99,99% of cases , and in particular it is true here.

ABAP Technology... is a product instance to be selected when you have an 'EHP6 ready' install, and you do that to apply technical usages on a newly installed ERP, it is a special case of installation.

Hello Miguel,

thank you very much for your detailed and illustrative answer.

Do you know why product instance "Discrete Ind. & Mill Products" was marked as relevant first? System was registred through RZ70 at Solution Manager.

So I did following:

In LMDB in tab product systems I entered my SID and marked technical system in edit mode.

I deselected all without Central Applications and saved. Afterwards in SMSY Central Applications is marked as relelevant.

I did first step again and marked all other product instances again and saved. Now Central Applications is marked as relevant and other product instances like Discrete Ind. & Mill Products or Financial Services etc are marked as "also installed".

I think, system is now correctly defined.

Best Regards and many thanks,

Julia

Hello,

to tell the truth for me it hardly makes a difference whether a product instance is marked as relevant or also installed.

In fact, this distinction is not reflected any longer in LMDB, where all product instances are marked as

just 'installed'.

So either way it is ok... Central Applications as 'relevant and DIMP as 'also installed, or DIMP as relevant and Central Applications as 'also installed', I am inclined to think that both would work the same way in Maintenance Optimizer .

Miguel Ariño

Hi Julia,

Try executing the landscape verification tool.

This should give you an overview what components should be selected.

Hi, in SolMan 7.1 the Landscape Verification Tool is already integrated into the LMDB framwork.

There are two checks possible: in LMDB select your product system, in edit mode press the "check" button". The second option is to start the sync. verification check out of the navigation tree for your product system.

Hello Richard,

I found point the LVSM in Solution Manager Administration -> Landscape -> Product Systems respectively with transaction LVSM. And I executed Verification Check. System was checked, job

LMDB_VERIFICATION was running in background and system appears green in list.

But in SMSY still "Discrete Ind. & Mill Products" is marked as relevant instance.

So, how can I change this mapping?

Or how do I know if this mapping is correct? Why system isn't marked as "ABAP Technology for ERP EHP6" - it is a "normal" ECC 6.0 with EHP6.

Regars,

Julia

After you've executed the LVSM, you can select or deselect products as relevant.

In your case, deselect the unwanted product and save.

This should be visible in LMDB, and then synchronized to SMSY.

Hello David,

and where do I do that?

SMSY - click on SID in editmode refers to LMDB - Navigation Tree SID - Technical Systems - SID - Software.

There I can't unassign the assigned product instances - following message appears if I try:

Product instance 'EHP6 FOR SAP ERP 6.0: Central Applications' was supplied automatically

transaction lmdb

choose tab Product Systems

Enter your product system (usually the sid), Edit

In the left column, select Technical System

Select the line you want to delete and delete, save, done!

Hope it works!

Hello David,

thanks, this way is working.

It's possible to uncheck all other product instances. In SMSY the checked instance is marked as relevant. Afterwards all other instances can be checked again and will be shown in SMSY in column "also installed".

Julia
