Dear all,
We need to do the same hostname for SAP upgrade and copy.
1.DEV 4.6c to be copied as D11 in same hostname
D11 system used for regular devlopement.
2.DEV 4.6c system to be upgraded into DEV ecc6.0 EHP5? in same hostname.
Is there any issue doing above activity in one hostname.
Thanks
Thiru
There are no issues with the SAP software. You'll need to use a different system number, but otherwise this will work fine. I've run multiple systems on a single host several times.
The upgrade is a different matter. In particular, what are your plans for the database? I would expect 4.6C and ERP6 EHP5 to require different versions of the underlying database. Are you able to run two different versions of the database on the same host? This is possible, but pretty messy, for Oracle. For other DBs I don't know. Even where it is possible, it will likely complicate the SAP upgrade process and the DB software will live in a non-standard location on the server and be running on different network ports, etc.
Do you have the option to use virtualization software to create a virtual server on the existing physical server, and put the second system in that virtual host? That would remove all of these problems.
Steve.

Hello

And my answer in general:
What I understood: Your requirement is to create an additional system on the same server with different SID by doing a system copy of the existing system.
Yes it is possible. As long as you have different SID and different system number it is possible.
If I were you I would be doing the upgrade on the newly copied system.
Else you will have to reconfigure the transport and other RFC's.

Hi Thiru,
We can use same host name and different IP Address.
But Different host name is better than same host name.
