file import to row or column table

when importing data from a file into a HANA table, via the file import wizard, i get an option to choose row or column tables.

i would like to know the rational behind making this choice.

can anyone help or point me to some documentation

Hi Glen,

Please refer to the section 9.1 in HANA Admin Guide (http://help.sap.com/hana/hana_admin_en.pdf).

Depending upon the data usage (reporting / Analysis or Write operations) you may choose the storage option (Row / Column).

Please note that it is not possible to create HANA information models (Analytic / Calc / Attrib views) on Row storage tables.
