Hello Gurus ,
Can any one explain me how do we read PDS . What does components , activities and operations mean and where are the resources used in PDS .
Regards,
Nick
Hi Nick.
When you send PP master data from ECC to APO, you can send the same either as PPM or PDS, the difference is mentioend in SAP note no. 1079959.
Components
Rest as Aparna suggested components are nothing but BOM components or input materials required to produce header material (material in question).
Activities and Operations:
What work to be performed at resources and in what sequence.
Only one activity can be carried out at a time in a single-activity resource.
Several activities can be carried out at once in a multiactivity resource.
Resources use:
Capacities of plant, machines, personnel, means of transport, warehouses are defined in rosources (Work center in ECC).
In SAP APO, the system saves routing data of a production data structure (PDS) or a production process model. The resource at which the activity is carried out, is assigned to each activity in a PDS or PPM in the relevant mode. You can also define alternative resources here. The system uses the resource data to schedule the activities.
all other info on PDS is very beautifully described in SAP help, few points here.

You have to use transaction /n/sapapo/curto_simu to display a PDS. As the name implies components are nothing but raw materials that are required to make the finished product (or header material) . If you have inhouse production , you would have created routing in R/3 . The operations and activities are defined in the routing and describe the steps / tasks to be performed at the workcenter (resource in APO) to create the finished product.
Thanks
