Hi

For our DMS server d/b is MAXDB 7.6 and OS WIN32.

when i open D/b manager for backup , we can see two files to backup (S1 and S2)

S1 is able to come online but not S2. If i double click it (to make it online), error is something like --

"24988 sql server error [ backup_save S2 data recovery ] , -902 Message not available"

If i check database error files ---

Hi Swati,

Devspace 'F:\sapdb\CDB\saplog\DISKL001' marked as bad at position 80

As per above message it looks like log file for CDB database has some corruption. CDB is mostly used for caching in SAP DMS. Incase you have not enabled caching, you may restore CDB from old backup or re-install only the cache server again in your system.

Hi Srinivasan and deepak,

Thanks for your reply

@srinivasan - I came to know that we can use USE_BACKUP_SECURITY_DESCRIPTOR parameter only If we want to backup to a Samba share, set this parameter to NO.

Also i have check parameter given under configuration in database manager but i cannot find this particular parameter.Where to find it..!

@deepak - Can you tell me what are the steps if he i re-install cache or restore the data for CDB.

Do we have other alternative.

Also in diagnosis file i found this error -

Hi Swati,

All of the above messages are related to some issue with drive data not being accessible from application. Hence I suggested to get a hardware check.

Hi

We are planning to restore the database CDB. Can any1 help me out with the steps how to do it.

I know that it can be done thru recovery wizard.

do i need to create a new database and then restore all the data from CDB?

Please advice how to start with this.

Hi Swati,

You shall use recovery wizard and select the database you need to restore. Select overwrite and initialize existing CDB database. No need to create new CDB database again.

Hi Deepak

Thanks a lot for your quick response.

Just to confirm as i will do restore for first time , these are the steps i am going to follow -

1 Select the CDB d/b.

2 Goto recovery wizard and select option "restore a specified backup from history"

3 choose the file ( complete bkup file) that was last done on 18th jan.

4 Start

Is it ok to follow this steps? I am afraid that we cannot recover the files as last backup done was 18th jan.

If you can also confirm how much time it will take to restore.

My full points for you for all your help once i am sure with the activity to perform.

Hi Swati,

Steps are ok. Hope this helps. Recovery is not required as it holds only cache data. Actual data resides in SDB database. Restoration should happen in mins.

Note: Select Recovery with initialization in the wizard.

Hi Swati,

From MaxDB Version 7.5.00 Build 40 and 7.6.02 Build 03 onwards, a new parameter has been created to enable the use of SMB shares: USE_BACKUP_SECURITY_DESCRIPTOR

If you set this parameter to NO, no security descriptor will be used for opening backup file, thus the backup will run without problems.
