SUM fails in the Phase INSTANCELIST_PRE

Dear Experts,

We are in the process of updating our ECC PRD Cluster system.

Source System: SAP ECC6

Target System: SAP ECC6 EHP6

OS: Windows 2008 R2

Database: Oracle 11g

However stuck in the phase INSTANCELIST_PRE while requesting for the <sid>adm password for distributed environment.

SAP upconsole.log

START OF PHASE PREP_INPUT/INSTANCELIST_PRE

=========== Required System Passwords ===========

Your system is running in a distributed environment. To be able to proceed,

the epqadm user is required. Enter the password for the <SID>adm user. If you

are using a Windows domain user, enter the domain user password.

epqadm PASSWORD: ********

=========== Required System Passwords ===========

Hint: Our <sid>adm password  contains the special character @ symbol. Will that cause any issue?

Please advice on this.

Regards,

Raja. G

Hi,

SAP provided the solution for this issues like creating a local user ID with same password.

Hi Raja

I am doing ABAP SPS upgrade using SUM tool and I am also getting the same error you got  in the SUM phase PREP_INPUT/INSTANCELIST_PRE.

I have  CI and one application instance. SUM tool keep on asking the sidadm password. I tried creating a local sidadm user on both servers with the same password. But it didn't work for me.

I created the local sidadm user as per below note

1715038  - <SID>adm user can not be verified in a distributed environment

Is there any special action when you create the local sidadm user and continuing the upgrade.

Hi Bimal,

No i havent taken any special action during this phase. I created the user with necessary permissions and it worked. SUM is looking for local users instead of taking the users from domain.

Hi Raja

Thank you for the quick reply.

What I did was , at one stage I provided the domain user in the format domain\sidadm. and then when I got this error I created the sidadm user with same password and as member of local admin group and assign the "Logon as a service user " right .

Then continue SUM session and got the same error again. It didn't work for me.

Do you see anything else I should do?

It worked for me after creating the user ID's in local and proceed with the upgrade.

Raise an SAP message as well. I will get back to you if i remember anything.

Hi,

It looks like known error. Please check SAP Note 1140980 - sapstartsrv user authentication on AIX.

Thanks

Hi,

Oh. I missed it. But anyways, it is linked to sapcontrol only. Please check SAP note 1715038.

Thanks

Hi Raja,

You may enter the password for <sid>adm as requested. This is being asked since you might have initiated the upgrade process from the server where database instance is not running.

Hi Deepak,

The database instance is running on the same host only. Apart from that i gave the password however it is saying wrong password again and again. The password provided is correct only.
