Hi sheeba,

While stopping SAP OS collector will still be running.

So when you apply kernel patch you have to stop saposcol manually using command

saposcol -k

While starting sap the script will check whether saposcol is running or not,If not running the script will start the saposcol.

Hope this answers your query

Hi,

OS collector means the operating system collector also known as the SAPOSCOL .

This standalone program runs in the operating system background.

This program collects data about operating system resources and

makes this data available through the shared memory of all SAP instances.

To start it at any time by calling transaction ST06 and choosing

the path Detail analysis Menu → OS Collector → Start.

It can also be started from the cmd line of the sap server the different commands are as under:

saposcol -s displays the status

saposcol -l starts the os collector

saposcol -k stops the os collector

The default location of the saposcol.exe is E:\usr\sap\SID\SYS\exe\run.

Hope this satisfies your querry. Now u can say if it is not started what will happen.

Pl dont forget to award points

hi sheeba,

OS collector is the background program which will be running at OS level to collect OS related data CPU usage, memory usage paging etc.

The executable for this is available in kernel directory of the sap system.

You can stop/start OS collector from tcode ST06.

If OS collector is not running it will not affect the normal running of the SAP system. How ever it is required for us to analyze the performance related issues.
