Speak to your basis team first. Typically, during upgrade, a system will need to be 'isolated'. So, you may be asked to stop any CIF processing in and out of the system to be upgraded. At the appropriate time, you might then have to re-start the CIF processing before releasing the upgraded system to the users. This has to be done in such a manner that no data is lost.
The detailed list depends in part upon what type of data you are currently exchanging. If you are not familiar with this, speak to the Functional person who designed your IMs. All the info you need can be found in the upgrade guide. The Basis team typically will have a copy of that guide, which they should have downloaded when they downloaded the stack.
You will test the upgrade process, and the functionality of the upgraded system, sometimes several times, prior to actually upgrading the production system. By the time you actually go live with the upgrade, you will know, or will have discovered, exactly what needs to be done.
