Error Msg : " Listener Failed To Start .." From OraSid

Hi Everybody!!

I am getting the following error message, while I give " lsnrctl start " message at orasid to start the listener file :

"TNSLSNR for Linux: Version 9.2.0.7.0 - Production

System parameter file is /oracle/RP1/920_32/network/admin/listener.ora

Log messages written to /oracle/RP1/920_32/network/log/listener.log

Error listening on: (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=IPC)(KEY=RP1.WORLD))

TNS-12542: TNS:address already in use

TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error

TNS-00512: Address already in use

Linux Error: 98: Address already in use

Listener failed to start. See the error message(s) above... "

Pl. help ..I am novice to SAP...

Hi Rupen,

1) Make sure that you stop you listener before starting it. Check if it's active (lsnrctl status) and stop it (lsnrctl stop). In some rare cases you may need to clean shared memory.

2) Make sure no other application uses the port you defined for your listener. Check /etc/services and listener.ora. Additionally you can use netstat command to get list of ports currently in use.
