How to retain custom changes after patches

Former Member

Hello Experts,

We have ESS/MSS in our project. One of the component of MSS (Compensation Planning) is modified because of customer's requirement. We have added a Total field in the bottom of the table of Compensation planning. We attained this by doing a code change in NWDS in ECM component.

We observed that when we apply patches, these changes are gone and we have to again implement the changes by maually doing it it NWDS.

Is there any way we can make sure that can be done in any other easy way?

Please reply back with your suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Ankita

Hi Ankita,

Please refer to SAP Note 872892 - JDI/NWDI Cookbook for ESS/XSS for customizing ESS and MSS components.

Hi Ankita,

AFAIK, we never make modifications in the standard SAP delivered products. If there is need to make customizations, then we make a copy of the standard delivery and in that copy we achieve the customer specific requirements.

We follow this practice because during the time of upgrade, all the standard objects are overwritten by the latest patches that will be applied. This means that if there are modifications directly inside the standard SAP delivered packages like ESS/MSS and then during upgrading to the ESS/MSS Software Components (SCs) latest patch, all custom changes will be lost as the SC of the latest patch will overwrite the old SC.

I also found same query in a different thread: http://scn.sap.com/message/13764163

Experts please advise.

Thanks,
