Paging memory value mismatch in ST02

Dear Experts,

In rz11, current value for  paging parametrs are given below:-

rdisp/PG_MAXFS-> 1048576 kb  (OnDisk)

rdisp/PG_SHM-> 524288 kb     (In Mem)

but when we check in ST02 in page area row, OnDisk value is 524288kb This should be equal to rdisp/PG_MAXFS ….

What might be the reason….

Hi Sumit,

What you are seeing in ST02 is completely OK and the changes you made to the parameters are fine too. The point here is the filesystem amount that you see in ST02 is equal to MAXFS minus SHM amount. In your case: 1048576 - 524288 = 524288

Hi Divyanshu,

Means, Paging file can grow upto 524288 at OS level despite of 1048576.  I am confused. Can you please elaborate this concept. Why system not taking parameter value->1048576 OR Is it SAP standard.

Your help is really appreciated

Hi Sumit,

The parameter rdisp/PG_MAXFS is the total amount of Page (Filesystem+SHM) set. So, this parameter does not set the value for the file system directly.

It is used to specify the maximum size of page set which includes the the quotas for FS and SHM.

  Hi  Divyanshu,

Very thankful to you. This is totally new to me. I googled a lot on Memory management concepts but never found this.

Please let me know, Does this same thing apply in roll file case...

   Hi Srinivasan,

  Thanks for reply. I don't think, it's related to restart the system. Every month, we do start-stop for backup....  Reason may be some different....
