MDM GDS 2.1 --Decentral Adapter Engine Required?

Dear All

Do we need a decentral adapter engine for the GDS setup, if there is already a PI setup in place?

The installation guide is a bit hazy because it mentions as a mandatory step to have XI decentral adapter engine on the NW CE 711 java system (Pg 11 of the most recent install guide)

Why is this the case when we already have PI (and hence a central adapter engine) in place?
