Running partition during replication

Hi experts,

I recently partitioned a large table and about 20 minutes after beginning the partition (still running) the replication job that is always processing triggers stopped with status ERROR.  I'm wondering if it's necessary to PAUSE replication while running the partition alter statement?  I do not see anything about this being necessary in the HANA Admin Guide SPS5.

I have discovered that replication requires an exclusive lock on the table and can cause a problem so we always suspend replication now before running a partition.
