SRM, Netweaver installation on HP-UX 11i

Hi All,

In our company, we are going to implement SRM server 5.5. So, in our landscape we are going to install SRM, XI, BW and EP on a single server.

My question is if in a single server we install all the applications, what about the hostname. Will it be same for all the systems or it can be different?

Can anyone explain how to go about on this, as i am new to HP-UX environment.

Thanks in advance,

Sailesh K

Be mindful of performance issues as well if you install various components on one machine.

Hello Raminder,

With HP-UX Virtual Partitions (vPars), Each virtual partition is assigned its own resources (CPU, memory, and I/O), so there are no resource conflicts between virtual partitions.

That is true, but physical resources are limited. The virtual partitions take the resources from this physical pool of resources.

Hello Sailesh,

It's possible to have with multiple hostnames on single server with HP-UX Virtual Partitions (vPars)

The vPars (Virtual Partitions) product allows you to run multiple instances of HP-UX simultaneously on one hard partition by dividing the hard partition further into virtual partitions.

Each virtual partition is assigned its own subset of hardware, runs a separate instance of HP-UX, and hosts its own set of applications. Because each HP-UX instance is isolated from all other instances, vPars provides application and OS (Operating System) fault isolation.

Each instance of HP-UX can be of a different release, have different patches, and have a different kernel.

Hello,

why everything is on one server? any budget problem? this is very critical to manage if something goes wrong then you will loose all the applications. Try to install in seprate machine.

Hi Sunil

As you said yes there is a factor of risk because everything is on one server,if something goes wrong then its a problem. But i am sure that you will take backup so no problem. But you will have to have a very good hardware configuration.Check http://service.sap.com/instguides.

Hi Sailesh

If all the components are installed in one machine. Its host name will also be same for all.For example your EP will sit on the WAS so if WAS and EP are on same machine the host name will remain the same.
