In a Settlement rule, there can be one receiver or different receivers.
If one receiver per settlement rule, there can be 100 % settlement (Full Settlement) or Periodic Settlement (then & there costs incurred). If settlement rule has these 2 kinds settlement (Full & Periodic), then you can say that Settlement rule has 2 distribution rules.
If more than one receiver per settlement rule, then each receiver can have 2 type settlement viz., Full & Periodic, so that the settlement rule can have N distribution rule as No. of Receivers x No. of Distribution rules per receiver.
You can control the no. of distribution rules per settlement rule in Settlement Profile configuration.
