1. I want to know, what steps i need to do in SLD to start a XI project.
2. Can i do XI project without SLD?.
3. What is the real use of SLD?. Is it physical location or logical location of components?.
4. SLD is used only by XI?. or any other module of SAP share SLD?.

you need to define technical and business system per every SAP system
and create your own sotware components

SLD is used by many SAP applications not only XI

Where is physical location of s/w components defined is SLD?.
Why we use logical location?. We can't use physical location?. What is benefit of using logical location?.

Its repository .. i hope security purpose or all objects .. these cannot have direct physical path..
you can export ,import SLD data to physical path..
By using CMS..or file transport...
