Also is it posssible to change the plant after certain time, when we decide that we want to shift our production from Plant A to Plant B for a specific product.

Hi Anusha ,

In order to meet your requirement,

1) Make sure that the plant information is not maintained in Customer Material Info Record (CMIR) and Customer Master.

2) Maintain the Plant at Material level so that it gets determined from it.

Yes. you can change the plant later in the sales order unless delivery is not created for the line item.

Hi,

Standard SAP behavior for determining plant is, system approaches three level.

1) It checks at customer material info record, TCode- VD51

If its not maintained there then

2) It checks at Customer Master, TCode - XD03

If its not maintained there then

3) It checks at Material master level, TCode: MM03

When system doesnt find any entry of plant at these three levels, it pops up with error of determining plant and it doesnt allow to proceed further.

And yes you can enter/change plant manually at sales order level.

Let me know if it clears your query.

Jaydeep

Hello Anusha

You can maintain customer material info record in VD51 for same material but different delivering plants to different customers. Now system will check delivering plant in this info record and enter in sale order. You can change it manually too.

Hi,

Mr.Boy is right system first picks the Plant form the customer Master and then from Material Master if it is Maintained.yes it is possible to change the plant at any time if the material is Extended to that Plant.

Anusha,

It is possible to create a default delivery plant in the Customer master for each customer.  More common, though, is to place the default delivery plant in the Material Master.  MM02 > Sales org tab.
