Hi Gaurav,
For the first question, we can say
ABAP proxy objects can only be generated for SAP systems that are based on SAP Web Application Server 6.40.
You can also check out this helpful link
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/14/555f3c482a7331e10000000a114084/frameset.htm
For the second question,
Without XI, we can have Proxy for Web service communications through Java
For the third question,
You dont require backend connection for Client Proxy, but we require backend connection for Server Proxy.
For the last question,
Have a look at these links..

Thanks, Kiran, sreeram and rajeev for your valuable answers.
Link and your answers has really helped me.
I would appreciate if you can provide me some link which could tell me what all settings do we need to do for establishing connection between SAP and XI.
So as per what i understood from your answers, i think SPROXY has its utility even when XI is not there... Am i correct?
Thanks,
Gaurav

Hi Gaurav,
for SPROXY , to work, the sap system should have WEB AS 6.2 or higher...otherwise proxy will not work.
yes without xi, proxy can be used to communicate with web-services through java.
yes SPROXY needs a HTTP conn IN sm59 from source system to XI..
just open SPROXY in R/3, all the msg interfaces will come in their SWCV of IR in XI if above things are there.
Thanks,

do you have any document for
"<b>yes without xi, proxy can be used to communicate with web-services through java.
"</b>
I dint understand what do you mean by "SPROXY needs a HTTP conn IN sm59 from source system to XI.."
I know that when i go to SPROXY trans then i will see all SWCV of IR, but how it come to SAP ... dint understand that.
Thanks,
Gaurav
Hi Gaurav,
<i>I dint understand what do you mean by "SPROXY needs a HTTP conn IN sm59 from source system to XI.."</i> - see SPROXY in R/3 shows you all the SWCV of IR of XI, so how do SPROXY connects from R/3 to XI.....For this to work in R/3, you will have RFC conn of HTTP type to XI.....So that SPROXY in background uses this conn to connect to XI to get your SWCV of IR of XI.
Thanks,
Rajeev Gupta
