Analysis Report Formatting for BW Data Structure

Former Member

We have a BEX query currently containing a structure and numerous key figures.  Within the structure we have specific groups of elements such as 'Year to Date', 'Previous Year', '1st Half Forecast', etc.  Having applied style sheets etc., we are now attempting to add blank columns in the Analysis Report to separate these groups.  We have tried applying style sets and so forth however the structure that is read in with these groups as subsets does not appear to let us format these particular 'breaks' or column spacers as purely blank/white format.  See beloe image for a mock-up example.

Is there a way to achieve this in Analysis?

Hi Stephan,

We had the same challenge - we used "Convert to Formula" option and then inserted the blank columns in between the Structure elements of the Bex Query. When you use the Convert to formula option each cell is a query to the BW database and it behaves independently of the bex structures.

Hi Sri,

Thanks for the input - very useful.  The issue we have is that we then effectively lose all 'drill-down' capabilities within the report tab and this is key to the user.

We had previously explored bringing the query in 'off-sheet' and using cell referencing however again face the same issue.

Conditional formatting in Excel is overwritten as per the toolset and Analysis conditional formatting is extremely limited, with the additional element of creating a new rule for every key figure that sits alongside the hierarchy node.

Currently exploring our options with future releases but for now, your reply has been most helpful.

All the best

Steph

Hi Stephen,

Currently the only possibility to do this via AO is to use "Convert to Formula". I'm not very familiar with the Query Designer, but maybe you can achieve this by modifying the query with it?

Anyway I would recommend you to post your requirement on the  Ideas Place.

Has anyone found a way around this as yet that enables us to retain drilldown?
