hi great sdners--- see u all in sap teched-07
what are the symptoms ,that based on which we conclude that this is the appropriate time for applying particular patch?
or we simply apply a patch when ever sap releases a new patch?
Hi shabbir,
Support pack apply time depends on how many objects going to modify. We can not justify the time required to apply the support pack. About support pack simptoms read SAP note 782140 which will give you entire support packs common simptoms. always update the oss note 782140.
Reward points if helpful.

Hi Shabbir,
After SAP R/3 system Go Live stage, apply support package only when it's needed. I suggest you not to apply patch just because that patch is the latest one. It could lead your SAP system into a problem because each SAP system has it's own characteristics, settings, and customizing.

Hi,
U should take the help from ur Functional and ABAP people before applying the patch,i.e. confirm from them wehter this patch should be appiled or not.
They will see what are objects to be affected and gives u confirmation
and also the transports that are to be released or imported , u shold confirm with them
Dear Shabbir
The patching is a project on its own . No it is not like that as soon as SAP releases a patch it is applied ..
The functionality or the enhancement is also announced along with the SP Stack which is also considered before doing anything
Plus the development and functional enhancements also require you to update the patch to be in sync with SAP and patch the bugs of prior levels .
It is good to be up to the level but it is always recomemded to be one step behind till is checked . You can also check the side effects of the patch in marketplace

Hi Shabbir,
You can find the Support Package Schedule on https://service.sap.com/ocs-schedules
To avoid side-effects when importing Support Packages, a reporting tool on 'Side-Effects of SAP Notes' is available.
http://service.sap.com/softwarecat.
Support packages are available as a part of software maintenance and SAP regularly publishes support Packages for various types of programs corrections & updates both for ABAP & JAVA.
This will be decided by the business requirement if they want to apply the advance correction which is provided in the Support Package.
Generally, basis administrator follows the rule on(DEV->QA->PRD) that
Support Package = (Current Support Packages on SAP Marketplace - 2).
