Hello!

We have installed SAP system with SAP MaxDB version 7.8.02.23

In order to optimize the execution of Check Tables job we read in sap note 940420 (point 18) that the SAP MaxDB version

7.8.02.30 should be installed.

Question

What is the effort for this update (7.8.02.23 to 7.8.02.30)?

The size of our DB is appr. 300 GB.

Hello Alex,

I did not get your question - "What is the effort for this update" - did you mean the downtime ?

Yes, the CHECK DATA runtime has been optimized with MaxDB release 7.8.2.30 by enabling the parallelism of the server tasks. But be carefull before you enable this feature, you need to make sure you have sufficient system resources for using this optimization feature.

Since you are already on MaxDB version 7.8.2.23. This update is just a patch and you are not actually upgrading the major or minor release. So it should't be much effort.

I would recommend you to try the upgrade on your DEV or QA systems first, before you update your production instance.

Before you apply the patch 7.8.02.30, please read SAP Note: 1020175 - (FAQ: SAP MaxDB installation/upgrade or applying a patch) for more information on applying MaxDB patch.

If you are an SAP customer, in case of any problems during the patch update, you can contact SAP support by creating a message under the component BC-DB-SDB-UPD and include the log MaxDB*<date><time>.LOG of the SDBUPD/SDBSETUP that is located in the directory <IndepData>/wrk.

Regards,

Yashwanth
