Friends,
We are currently on BW 7.0 and will like to do an upgrade to the most stable Version that will enable us to migrate to BW on HANA later. Please note we are not migrating BW on HANA right now, but will do so in next 6 months.
What is the most Stable version you would recommend. Would it be:
- BW 7.3 SP05/06/07/08 or
- BW 7.31(EHP 01) with SP04/05
Also what is the difference between the 2 Tracks BW 7.3 Vs BW 7.31(EHP 1). What are the pros and cons.
Thanks,
S
Hi,
As NetWeaver BW 7.40 Sp06 is available, this would be the ideal Version to go, as it also has additional Functionality for HANA.

Hi
The answer to this question depends on your organization's upgrade roadmap, generally you should already have the next 2 to 5 years mapped out with possible outcomes and anticpate possible changes that SAP may introduce.
Your upgrade path from BW 7.0, for example can be as follows:
After upgrading your BW 7.0 system to BW 7.31 and with regards to the BW on HANA Migration afterwards, I would recommend to use the Rapid Deployment Solution (RDS), there is also a cookbook on the http://www.saphana.com/community/solutions/net-weaver-bw website to assist with the migration process. The RDS for BW 7.3 requires SP07 and for BW 7.31 requires SP04. The differences between BW 7.3 and BW 7.31 is highlighted in the release notes on the help.sap.com website:
also on SCN: http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-7754
For information purposes:
Our system was upgraded earlier this year (2012) from BW 7.01 to BW 7.3, we planned for next year (2013) to upgrade to BW 7.31 however in light that NetWeaver 7.4 is expected to be released next year (2013 +/-), we may delay our upgrade to BW 7.31 instead for BW 7.4.
Also we did a proof of concept BW on HANA in June 2012, using a copy of our production system, the actual DB migration process took 10 days with very few issues, however keep in mind that we had spent 2 years prior planning and preparing our BW 7.01 system by upgrading to BW 7.3 and be ready for a possible BW on HANA migration.
The planning and preparation process is very important as this determines the success of the migration process.

We're on 7.3 SP07 (with 30-40 notes after) on Oracle - mostly stable.
But for you purpose you can choose way upgrade to 7.31 with last patch. With - as always testing procedure.
Next big version will be 7.4.
