AIX performance during Upgrade

Hi Sap experts,

We have an AIX BOX where is running an upgrade of Sap NW 04 to Sap ECC 6.0.

SUM tool is running at phase Preparation.

It isn't a virtual box.

Hi,

Check your db parameters, the expensive sql and create indexes for this.

The main problem of performance is solved by updating the statistics.

SGEN speed is directly proportional to the amount of dialog processes available (depending on resources) also, taking in consideration the WP's of the dialog instances (with same architecture).

You could have maximized the amount of dialog processes before SGEN started.

Hi Juan,

The main problem is that Shadow instance is frezzed doing SGEN but it takes more than 3 days and isn't finish...

The OS is AIX and we have done an Upgrade recentlly from 5.3 to 7.1 .

Please advice.

Freezing?... the only reason for that to happen is that the redologs are full, have you checked that?... if not, can you please give us more details?

This will depend on your config and resources... have you check how many Dialog WP's are available for SGEN?... how many objects need to be generated?... etc...  are you getting any errors on the logs??

The number of proces are the following:

rdisp/wp_no_dia = 13

rdisp/wp_no_vb = 1

rdisp/wp_no_vb2 = 0

rdisp/wp_no_btc = 9

rdisp/wp_no_spo = 1

But only 3 are running with SGEN.

Hi Sargan,

First of all, check the status of physical resource of the AIX system - using topas, vmstat command.

It may be due to available memory and CPU ( , primarily CPU).

For SGEN update the database stats for the table - GENSETC and REPOSRC. Also check the number of Dialog process for Shadow Instance.
