Print Spool request is in status problem

Hi All,

We have received an issue with the print output requests. Few of the spool requests by a user get successfully completed and few end in status 'Problem'.  The output printer being defined for user is LOCL.

I tried the same on my computer as well. When I tried printing the completed spool request; it went successfully. When tried one of the erroneous spool requests; it again failed to status 'Problem'.

In SU3; the setting in LOCL and output immediately in both cases. Delete after o/p is not selected and I can see failed spool entires in SP01. It shows in output attributs 'with Problem =1'

But I am not able to find any error log anywhere why it ended up in status problem. It seemsme like it is something to do with the data being printed. As that can be the only difference in two requests. As the local printer and the user all were same in both cases. Could you please advise how can I find error logs of a spool request in Problem status to fins root cause of this problem and resolve.

The SAPLPD log is the same for both requests; the 'Completed' and the 'Problem'

The Problem spool request's SAPLPD file shows below

What access method you use for LOCL output device? Try to check SAPLPD log closer.

Hi Roman,

The access method used in LOCL is 'F: Printing on Frontend computer' .

Also; could you please advise where I can find detailed error logs for SAPLPD.

Thanks

You can find SAPLPD log on workstation where printing is performed.

Hi Riman,

We usually get SAPLPD pop up aftr giving print command from SAP. But in this case there is no SAPLPD pop up for affected users.

Its OK.

Try to check why SAPLPD not started. Is this issue relate to concrete workstation? Check windows event log for more info. Also check if port used by SAPLPD (usually 515) is free on that workstations.

Hi Riman,

Thanks a lot for the prompt response. Actually affected users are at a different location. Do you have any idea how can we verify that port used by SAPLPD is not blocked. Or the windoes event log.

Could it also be SAPLPD.exe missing on those computers. Seems they had recent GUI upgrades. But only one location is facing the issue. Working for others.

You can check used ports with netstat -an command. Check for 515 port. Also check that SAPLPD.exe exists on those computers. Windows event log is standard windows feature. Try to use mmc program to check event log.

Hi Roman,

After requesting them to open SAPLPD manually and then start printing; I got below error message from SAPLPD on affected users

"Number of processors: 4
Icon DLL loaded.

Error: Ni2Listen failed with code = -4
The TCP-port [515] for the SAPLPD is in use!
There is either another SAPLPD running or
the previous SAPLPD did not release
the TCP port
Maybe a PC reboot will help"

Please advise how we can resolve it and where we can check port 515 usage and resolve.

Run cmd.exe as Administrator and in cmd execute

cmd> netstat -ab

Check program holding port 515. You can change port for SAPLPD.exe with -r<port> option. Check also Note 379515 - Troubleshooting frontend printing (access method 'F').

Hi Roman,

We could not exactly identify the usage of port 515 from above.

Tried below and it released the port resolved the problem

Start --> Run --> Services.msc, double click on Printer spooler, click on Stop and click on Ok. Then, tried to use SAPLPD

Hi Roman,

As mentioned; the status column shows 'Problem' and in output attributes it shows processed with problem. Need to find error logs to check cause of the problem in processing.

Thanks

Hi All,

The spool requets status shows Problem. As per SAP socumentation it is

"

There is a minor problem; the output request was printed, but probably contains errors.

Example: If the printer character set is incomplete, a missing character is replaced with another (#)."

But I am unable to find the error log which can show the reason of this problem or any of the possible causes

Thanks
