Homogenous HW migration of Solution Manager

Former Member
0 Kudos

Dear all,

I need to move the Solution Manager system 4.0 Installed in 2007 (now version 7.0) from HP-UX 11.23 on PA-RISC to HP-UX 11.32 to Itanium.

When I usually do the homogenous system copy I just copy the datafiles (from offline system) in the appropriate File systems and then I prepare everything in /usr/sap/SID/ and /sapmnt/SID/ , copy the new kernel for the appropriate HP-UX version and DB version and that's it.

For the SM migration:

I've prepared all file systems, installation of Oracle 10.2.0.4 SW  on the Itanium and restored the datafiles in the appropriate file systems. Next I need to prepare the kernel files for the Itanium.

I've downloaded the SAPEXEDB_333-20001024.SAR and SAPEXE_333-20001025.SAR files in order to unpack and save in the /sapmnt/SMP/exe file system.

What about the /usr/sap/SMP/SCS01/exe ? Which files should be here? I have prepared the file systems and the appropriate folder structure.

Also the files in /usr/sap/SMP/DVEBMGS40/SDM/program ?

Now for the Sol Man I'm not sure for anything 😞

Should I install the Central instance with ABAP anad Java , in order to get the SCS....?

Pls advice.

Thank you in advance.

Ruzica

Dear Ruzica,

1.What about the /usr/sap/SMP/SCS01/exe ?

--Copy them as it is from source to destination. Replace it with new kernel.

2. /usr/sap/SMP/DVEBMGS40/SDM/program?

--Copy them as it is from source to destination.

3. Should I install the Central instance with ABAP anad Java , in order to get the SCS....?

Yes, you need to install Central instance with ABAP anad Java.

I personal prefer Homogeneous system copy including database to avoid unnecessary issues.

Dear all,

I've done the homogenous system copy without installing the Central instance with ABAP anad Java.

I just prepared every File systems, user, profiles... and replaced the new kernel for HP Itanium.

Now i got :

Dear Ruzica,

Kindly check ORAARCH for free space. It's a usual behavior.

And found that when I update the kernel for HP IA64 there is no file

/usr/sap/SMP/DVEBMGS40/exe/igswd_mt

Why there was not igswd_mt in the SAPEXE_353-20000982.SAR ?

Do You know where to find it?

I've downloaded the igsexe_20-10003072.sar and unpacked.

And in the note 937000 there is how to install IGS but only for "Installation and Upgrade AS/400"

    2. Log on as user <SID>adm and execute one of the following commands
(from the SAP kernel) to load the contents of IGSEXE.SAR into your kernel:

  • Kernel 7.00:

           CHGO4AFREC OPERATION(*UPSERT) HYBLIB(<kernel library>)
O4AFTYPE(SAR) IFSNAME('IGSEXE.SAR') SRCDIR('<dir>') DSTLIB('$(KRNLIB)')
DSTDIR('$(SYSEXERUN)')

Important: Note that the 'IGSEXE. SAR' parameter for the
IFSNAME parameter must remain in upper case. Otherwise, the system may issue the
following error messages when you later apply patches:   "Checking target
library <library> for consistency... Number of IFSNAME duplicates found: 2
... hybrid library <library> is inconsistent".

    3. Stop your SAP system and ensure that all processes are stopped.

    4. Execute the following command to synchronize the IGS with the file
    system:

              APYSAP TYPE(*KERNEL) SID(<SID> )
DSTLIB(<kernellib>) CLEANUP(*YES)

     5. Start the SAP system again.

IS there procedure for HP-UX?

Can I just copy the igs... files into the exe folder?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Ruzica,

Did you follow the proper export / import steps - using SAPINST. It looks like installer did not build your java instance properly. Check your installation log.

Hi Dipam,

No I did not follow the SAPINST procedure . I just copy the datafiles from shutdown DB, change the kernel files for ABAP in /usr/sap/SMP/DVEBMGS40/exe and JAVA in /usr/sap/SMP/SCS01/exe.

But It also needs to update the /usr/sap/SMP/DVEBMGS40/j2ee and the /usr/sap/SMP/DVEBMGS40/SDM.

How to reinstall the J2EE and the SDM? Can I install this components without installing the Java instance...?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ruzica,

You can try this procedure with the same host ( for example in case of system crashed). You can simply restore all SAP + DB files. For different host I would recommend either homogeneous or hoterogeneou copy ( specialy for Java Stack). Simply copy of secure store file will not work for different host.

So my question is - why are you performing these manual procedure ? Are you trying to setup a "DR" plan for Java stack ?

Good luck

Hi Dipam,

Beacuse I'm not familiar with SAPinst 🙂 . I tried some start of sapinst and I get too many errors 🙂

Now I'm trying to install just the SCS Instance on the target destination, but I got "FCO-00011 The step getCD with step key" when inserting the Java part.

But It seems I should do the real homogenous system copy procedure anyway.

Hi Ruzica,

You can use "SAPINST", you dot need special knowledge to perform basic homogeneous copy. You can try with the following steps

Step1 : Download Media from SAP service market place .Minimum you need 4 DVDs / CDs

-- Installation Master ( for your OS +DB combination )

            -- Kernel DVD

            -- Java components CD

-- Database software main CD or client CD

You can download thses from : https://service.sap-ag.de/swdc. Select Installa and Upgrade --> A-X Index---> Click on S --> Solution Manager. Go to your specific SolMan version --> Select OS + DB specific Media

Step 2 : Take a backup of your database (Source system ).

Step 3 : On the Source system :  Start your SAPINST from the downloded location.

Before starting SAPINST, set the folloiwng basic minimum environment variables  for the user 'root':

setenv  DISPLAY <IP>:0.0

setenv  JAVA_HOME <path>

setenv SAPINST_JRE_HOME <path>

Please note that you need some x-Windows software ( like - Reflection, Exceed or if you are familiar with VNC you can use this ).

Step 4: Once SAPINST starts, select Solution Manager --> Software Life cycle --> System copy --> System Export --> Central Instance.

SAPINST will ask for some basic input and most import is - location of export . You can specify any location with sufficient space. You can start the export by clicking "start' button.

Step 5 : Build your target system : Install database binary. Follow the same procedure and start "SAPINST".

select Solution Manager --> Software Life cycle --> System copy --> System Import --> Central Instance.

It will ask for similar kind of input. Most import input:

-- location of export ( taken on step 3 )

-- Copy method ( Homogeneous ). Do not select standard method.

In some point of time it will ask for database restore. Please restore your database ( from step -2 )and bring it to consistent stage.

After database restore continue your SAPINST and it will install your complete system.

Step 5 : perform all post tasks.

I hope this will help you.

Hello Dipam,

I've started the above procedure export-import like you said,.

Now I'm on step 5.

But here when I started the Master CD - SAP Solution Manager 4.0 - Software Life Cycle Options - System Copy - Oracle - Target System Installation - Central System - Based on ABAP and Java  - Central System

In the step for Java component I got one problem with JAVA CD I've downloaded. It was the only Java component in the link for Solution Manager download ..

Found
label SAP:UT_SOLMAN:SOLMAN40SR4:SP14:*:* but need the label
SAP:UT_SOLMAN:SOLMAN40SR4:NW04SSR3:*:*:*

Where can I found this CD for Java componenet SR3?

I'm I doing right with target system?

Thank you in advance/

This what I've downloaded and it is wrong 😞

Hi Ruzica,

I think you are using the wrong Java CD /DVD.

It must be match with your support pack level.

Logon on to your SAP source system . Fine out what support pack level and download the matching Installation Master , Kernel and Java component CD. However on service market place you will get CD/DVDs matching with latest suppot pack. There is a section called "Archive" same location. Try to find out your exact media from "Archive" or raise an OSS message they will send you old media.

Hi Dipam,

I have problem on the target system. The source was OK, I already did the export. And I downloaded the CD files from the same link for HP PA-RISC (source) and for HP IA (target) and the JAva CD from the same link:

My Company's Application Components" My Company's Software" SAP SOLUTION
MANAGER
" SAP SOLUTION MANAGER 7.0

Installation and Upgrade - HP-UX- Oracle Database : SAP Solution M. 7.0 SR4 Java Comp. 1 of 4

The import was still not started and the problem with JAVA CD... 😞

I tried with the Archive but there was only for Sol Man 3.2 version.

Tnx ,

Hi Ruzica,

Import failed since you use a different version of Solution Manager Java CD.

Since your version is SolMan 4.0  NW04s SR3, you have to use for both source and target. If you change your OS, you require SolMan 4.0  NW04s SR3 CD for your new OS.

In SAP service market place /swdc

Installation and upgrade --> Search for Software Downloads. Try to find your CD. Otherwise you can request SAP for old CD / DVD - raise an OSS message. I did couple times.

Hello Dipam,

Now on the target system installation, after selecting the right CD I'm on the step for selecting JCE Unlimited Streinght Jurisdiction Policy Files Archive. I tried selecting everything:

/opt/java1.4/jre/lib/security/US_export_policy.jar

/opt/java1.4/jre/lib/security/local_policy.jar

or just the directory /opt/java1.4/jre/lib/security

But I've got message "INCORECT ZIP file" or the "File /opt/java1.4/jre/lib/security does not exist"

What should I select for JCE ...?

Thank you in advance.

I've downloaded the jce_policy-1_4_2.zip and I proceed with the homogenous system copy.

But now I have 2 HIGH and 1 LOW prerequisit checker about the kernel parameter  filecache_min and filecache_max and the OS patches.

Can i somehow skip this because they are already set correct for the Oracle 11.2.0.2 setting?

Sorry , I skiped it with CANCEL 🙂

Now another thing :

As you suggested I checked the homogenous system copy and now I'm on the screen for SAP Instances -> Central and SCS Instance parameters.

For Central Instance I've the same number as on the source system - 40.

And also for SCS Instance number I've 01 like on the source system.

But the Input error is:

"You input the instance number 01 for SCS instance on host sapds.

DIAGNOSIS: In the SAP system SMP, an SCS instance already exist with Instance number 01 on host sap3n.

SOLUTION: Enter a different instance number"

Because it is a homogenous system copy the instance numers should be the same as it was on the source system sap3n. I'm I wrong.?

What should I do?

Please help.

Hi Ruzica,

Good to know that your copy procedure is in-progress.

For SCS you can put different number too.

I tied to change the instance number of SCS instance from 01 to 11, but the same Error:

"You input the instance number 11 for SCS instance on host sapds.

DIAGNOSIS: In the SAP system SMP, an SCS instance already exist with Instance number 01 on host sap3n.

SOLUTION: Enter a different instance number"

Do you know why this happend?

Tnx in advance,

Please check from the unix level any procees related to SCS is running or not ?

Also check /etc/service file for any entry like 3640, 3611, 3911.

Could please send us the screenshot where you select the SCS number.

No processes started on this host sapds for any instance at the moment.

In /etc/services I was configured by myself the row:

sapmsSMP        3640/tcp        # SAP System Messaging Service Port

Should I delete in order the installation to enter or this is not the problem?

sapds:/opt/java1.4/jre/lib/security#cat /etc/services|grep 3611

sapds:/opt/java1.4/jre/lib/security#cat /etc/services|grep 3640

sapmsSMP        3640/tcp        # SAP System Messaging Service Port

sapds:/opt/java1.4/jre/lib/security#cat /etc/services|grep 3911

sapds:/opt/java1.4/jre/lib/security#

My hesitation is why the sapinst know about the source host SAP3N instances and why it metters if it is the same instance numbers because it is the homogenous system copy and on the source host the instances are shutdown now.

TST is the test ECC6.0 system (ABAP only) on this host sapds.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Ruzica,

Could you please check what is there in /usr/sap/SMP directory.

I belive, even though you are perform a homogeneous system copy, you are doing for the first time and nothing is there on the host related to SMP.

My suggetion is just comment out 3640 entry on /etc/service file, in SAPINST screen goback one screen  and click next again and go with default selection.

Do you use NIS to maintain your service, it looks like service is taking from some location.

Hello Dipam,

Ok I removed everything from the file systems and comment the settings in /etc/services .

Now I'm on the screen Media browser -> Software package request

Migration  Export

It is looking for the migration CD with lable SAP: JMIG:700:*:*:*:

Do you know where can I found this CD? I've searched in the Master CDs and Java Component and I couldn't found.

Thank you in advance.

I've prepared the Export on the source system and I also searched in the export dir : /tmp/sapinst_instdir/SOLMAN/LM/COPY/ORA/EXP/CENTRAL/AS/

sap3n:/tmp/sapinst_instdir/SOLMAN/LM/COPY/ORA/EXP/CENTRAL/AS#ll

total 32

drwxrwxr-x   3 root       sapinst       8192 Nov 28 10:00 EXP

drwxrwxr-x   3 root       sapinst       8192 Nov 28 08:37 PREEXP

sap3n:/tmp/sapinst_instdir/SOLMAN/LM/COPY/ORA/EXP/CENTRAL/AS#

But, here I couldn'd find the label.

Hi Ruzica,

At the time of export you specify your "Export Location". If you can mount (NFS) this file system to your Target system please mount it and specify in SAPINST. In some point of time it will ask for your export location, while building Target system.

Usually that label available in /<export director>/ABAP  ---- your ABAP export

For Java .. /<export director>/JAVA/ .....there will couple of directories ( APPS, DB, JDUMP, SDM). Check the lable LABLE.ASC their.

/tmp/sapinst_instdir/SOLMAN/LM/COPY/ORA/EXP/CENTRAL   --- is your installation directory.

Hi Dipam,

Ok I found the export dir I've specified days ago when I was preparing Export. But there was only JAVA folder, no ABAP.

And once again I stated the Export preparation and found that the in the preparation export the ABAP folder is created but it is empty. When I start the Export then only JAVA folder is creating.

I was using the CD - SAP_Solution_M._7.0_Inst._Master .

I also downloaded the Inst._Master_NW_7.0_SR3__BS2005_SR3_ but when I tried the export with it the label for JAVA was SAP: JMIG:701:*:*:*: I don't know why ..

This is what I was selecting to prepare the export:

The installation of component Execution of Service SAP Solution Manager 4.0 Support Release 4 > Software Life-Cycle Options > System Copy > Oracle > Source System Export > Central System > Based on AS ABAP and AS Java > Database and Central Instance Export has been completed successfully  has been completed successfully.

Hi Ruzica,

You have selected the correct export option however ABAP part will export if you de-select the folloiwng options ( this is for export ).

If you "select the above option that means it will perform only Java export and you have to use database specific restore method to restore your database in Target system.

If you select "database specific method" in export side, you have to seclect "homogeneos method"  in the target system as the follows :

And finally ,during installation of Target system, SAPINST will ask you to restore your database using database specific method as the follows :

Hello Dipam,

I've select "database specific method" in export side and seclect "homogeneos method"  in the target system.

Now I'm on this screen and the Task Progress is stack - not working anything for the last two hours. I tried to cancel the sapinst and started again with option: Continue with old option.

Still was waiting for something. I found in the log ora_sql_results.log

"

I fond the solution in Note 851169 - (Outdated)Inst: SAP

Now I'm on the step Create Secure Store:

And on the SecureStoreCreate.log

Hello Dipam,

I successfuly finished the installation on the target with DB restore (homogen system copy).

I've manualy removed the second folder SMP in /sapmnt/SMP/SMP/ and everything was then OK.

Now I tried startsap and stopsap and everything is OK all processes are running, but in the SAP GUI I have the error

WSATYPE_NOT_FOUND: The specified class was not found.

I've checked also the /etc/services:

sapmsSMP        3640/tcp        # SAP System Messaging Service Port

Do you maybe have some ideas what should be the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ruzica,

Good to know that, you have completed your target system.

Update your Kernel to the latest one ( I think your Kernet is 700 ), once you update your kernel GUI error will go.

Also check in SM28 - do you see any error ?

😞

I've update the kernel Instance succesfully started but again GUI error

WSATYPE_NOT_FOUND: The specified class was not found.

Must I implement the Note 831812 - Config Tool shows
incorrect parameters after System Copy

?

Because I couldn't start the /usr/sap/SMP/DVEBMGS40/j2ee/configtool/offlinecfgeditor.sh

PerfTimes : loadNativeLayer: loading jperflib failed.

Is there any connection with the GUI and this Note .?

Thanks in advance.

I know this OSS note, I am not sure about GUI association. However I saw your error due to Kernel patch.

Implement the OSS note 831812 and check.

Hello Dipam,

It was the SAP GUI that solved the problem

WSATYPE_NOT_FOUND: The specified class was not found.

I was using 7.1 no with 720 version of SAP GUI everything is OK.

Thankk you for everything.

Hi Ruzica,

I did hardware migration for Solution Manager (7.0) system from Solaris to Linux (RHEL) platform.I feel your situation is similar to me ( even though you have diffrent OS). Since you migrate to different OS,, I am not sure whether homogenius system copy will work or not.I have did my migration as follows, I am sure it work for you.

1) Target system build : Build your new target system ( OS installation + file system build + uses and group creation. Please maintain same UID and GUI if possible) make it ready for import

2) Install database software (only binary) on the Target system  --  Oracle 10.2.0.4  ( Or you can use SAPINST to install your Orcale software too in step - 4 )

3) Export : On the Source system perform a system export ( using SAPINST) . Select the option - System copy --> Source system export from SAPINST. Please note that you need sufficient space on export dump location ( usually ration is 10 : 1 , that means if your DB size is 100 GB you need minimum 10 GB space in your export dump location)

4) Import : Perform import using SAPINST on the target system and specify export dump location from step-3. You can use NFS or NAS file system or locally copy to Target system.

5) Post task : Perform all post tasks.

For more info check heterogenous system copy guide for your NetWeaver release.

If you have any question lete me know.

Regards,

Dipam
