Former Member

Hi!

1) could anybody explain the difference?

2) it takes how long for each of them?

3) can I do export or backup while production is running?

4) can I import an SLD backup while the production is running?

5) if I import into an SLD, should I use the exported one or the backup one?

Thanks a lot! Points guaranteed.

Hi,

While running the SLD activity not to take export or backap.. you have to stop and take export and start..

How to stop or start the sld service see below link..

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/e2/ec70e810c511d6999400508b6b8b11/content.htm

If you have more than one SLD instance, you must ensure that all content is synchronized. The SLD has export and import functions for this purpose.

See SAP Note 764393 for more information

You can use the generic data maintenance editor to view and manipulate the content of the SLD directly at model level. This is useful for objects that have no specific maintenance interface

If you use the generic maintenance editor, it could destroy the data integrity, which means that a smooth operation of the applications is no longer guaranteed. Use the generic editor only if you are familiar with the CIM concept and the data models of the specific applications

The component description and the system landscape description are based on the standard Common Information Model (CIM). To insert these descriptions into a system, or to update a description that already exists in a system, you have to import the corresponding instances from a master file

Whatever you exported .. previous exports ,you have to inport.

Hi Jennifer,

if I import into an SLD, should I use the exported one or the backup one? - if you have the latest backup of prod which was running fine and then some error occured on your prod system, then alwys import SLD from the latest backup.

Thanks,

Hi Jennifer,

yes you can do export when the production is running......but for backup, production is stopped and then backup is taken..........

regarding time, export will be done within maximum of two minutes for each scenario exported.....while backup of production can take three hours also depending on the data of your production system.

yes you can import SLD backup while production is running.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks,

Rajeev:

You say the export is to export a scenario. This makes me

think that you are talking about IR or ID export.

I want to make sure we are talking the same thing.

I am talking about SLD , not IR neither ID.

On SLD page there is an area like this:

Content

Import, Export and Backup

Upload and download CIM models and data.

Above is what I am talking about.

Please tell me

1) how long each of them take?

2) what is the difference of the outputs?

3) can I do the export/backup when PROD is running?

4) can I import SLD when PROD is running?

5) when import, should I use the export OR the backup?

Thanks!

Hi Jennifer,

You say the export is to export a scenario. This makes me think that you are talking about IR or ID export - yes this i said for IR but the other things which i have said are for SLD only......

in SLD, the export option gives you thee options - ALL, CR(for repository data) and LD(Landscape directory)......if you choose LD, then depeding on the technical systems you have your export time will increase.....but i think within average half hour you can export your LD.

Thanks,

Hi,.

>On SLD page there is an area like this:

Import / Export

Say you have a fresh SLD and now need a Copy of your old SLD in the new SLD. How do you do this?

This is where the EXPORT / IMPORT comes into picture. You export the Entire SLD as a .CIM file ( saved on the Local Desktop ) and then you import this CIM file in the new SLD. This way the entire old SLD entries are now in the new SLD.

Also, consider another requirement where your Dev SLD and QA SLD are different. You should not recreate the Dev related Technical System , Business Systems etc on the QA SLD. Instead you can export the Individual Components - Tech system , Busss System , Software Components etc from the Dev SLD and import it in the QA SLD.

This is where Export and Import come into the picture.

Back Up

Back Up is again as the name implies taking precaution. Imaging if you are going to import some data into your SLD and as a precaution you want to make sure if things go wrong you can revert changes. So take a Back Up on the entire SLD and if things go wrong , then Reimport using the IMPORT option the CIM file which you have taken as a back up.!

Just remember this, if you are going to export and import hte Entire SLD, then the Old contents in the SLD will be over written.
