Dear Team,

We have a native SUSE cluster Production system with DB ands CI on

different servers.

The root directory ‘/’ has reached 80% level in Prodcution CI.

We are planning to do clean up of the directories to bring down the Use

% of root directory.

Please let us know which files can be zipped/deleted that will bring

down the Use % below 80%.

We could also find 3 cores file in ‘/’ directory occupying 101.59 GB. Please let us know will there may any impact on the Production system if we delete the core files as per SAP NOTE : 39261.

Also will the Use % of root directory go below 80% on deleting core files.

Some other files that have occupied more disk space are as below with below snap shots:

524300 61684 -rw-rw----  1 oraprd  dba    63091866 Oct 16  2005 /oracle/PRD/102_64/

114705 68592 -rwxrwxr-x  1 oraprd  dba    70161719 Feb 24  2006 /oracle/client/10x_64/

Attached is the snap shots.

Also let us know if you require any extra information.

Hi Imaan,

You can delete the core files and the PSU tar file safely.

Thanks Orkun for your immediate response.

I guess PSU files on deletion will reduce the root directory usage directly(below 80%)...Please confirm.

However, I have still 1 query will core files deletion reduce root directory usage level ? The max capacity of root directory is 9 GB (as in Root snap shot) and core files are approx 100 GB (as in Details of Root).

Hi,

Here is the calculation;

core* files 33+36+36=105 MB

PSU tar file=56 MB

In the total, it will reclaim 161 MB storage area to the operating system, when you delete these files. The root logical volume is 9GB. So, it will not bring the "root" below 80% even if you delete them.

Additionally, PSU file may not be under the root logical volume. This is because it is under the "/oracle" directory. So, even if you delete this file, it will not affect free space under root LV.

I suggest you check what directories has been located on the "root" logical volume. Then, try to identify core or unnecessary files. For example, you can identify the core files, by using the command below;

cd /

find . -name *core*
