forecasting

hey all

this is mostly related to the design of the APO DP.

we have a client who needs planning at the Customer level ( apart from product and location ofcourse )

we r trying to build a pilot and cannot go deeper into ther thinking ......technically there is no issue at all.

but if iam thinking practically - it is very difficult to have customer driven forecast / demand .

how can you assign forecast with respect to the customer ?

if anyone can share their thoughts please.

thanks.

cheers !

KK,

It really depends upon the business requirements.  Certainly, as you mentioned, there is no problem technically WITHIN DP to have any kind of customer-based key figures and calculations.  You can import Sales History, sales backlog - anything that can be directly associated with the customer.  You can even emulate forecast consumption at the customer/material/plant level,  if the client thinks that calculation would be important.

In most companies, the main purpose of creating a demand plan is to assist in creating a supporting supply plan, which will in turn be released and executed prior to customers actually entering their sales orders.  When you build product in anticipation of a sales document, it is anonymous.  Even though you intend that it will be used only for a specific customer, SAP ERP doesn't really support a customer-specific Planned Independent requirements, nor a customer specific supply plan.  This is where your business requirements must be analyzed to determine what the client expects from your solution.

If the client actually expects that you will create customer specific demand, AND customer specific consumption of demand, AND customer specific supply, you should advise him that this is generally not possible in standard SAP DP/SNP/ERP.

One option that will allow the client to have multiple 'forecasts' against a particular material/plant combination is to just use SD Scheduling agreements, and not use DP or Planned Independent Requirements at all.  Here you can have multiple Scheduling agreements for a single material/plant (Customer based 'forecasts'), and you can also have customer sales orders be placed with reference to the SAs (Customer based 'consumption').  Speak to your local SD expert for details, if the client indicates to you that this is a requirement.

Thanks.
