Hi Gurus
Our client has lot of old documents with different initial versions.
For example
Total number of documents = 3000
Total number of documents with initial version "00" = 1500
Total number of documents with initial version "01" = 1000 (Note: These documents doesn't have version "00".)
Total number of documents with initial version "02" = 250 (Note: These documents doesn't have version "00" & "01".).
Total number of documents with initial version "03" = 250 (Note: These documents doesn't have version "00", "01" & "02".).
Now our client wants to upload all the documents with their versions for a single document type, We are planning to do mass upload by using BAPI_DOCUMENT_CREATE2. Since the document types are not supporting different initial version, can you please tell me how can we upload all these documents with their versions("00" or "01" or "02".
Regards
Harris
Hi,
Correct ! SAP DMS behaving correctly, without initial version system will never allow you to upload the other versions. Its the rule of hierarchy.

Hello Harris,
That's logically correct and SAP system is behaving correctly.
I would suggest you to create DIR version "00" first and then followed by version "01" and so on. You can check in documents only in the required version of DIR.
For example:
Total number of documents with initial version "01" = 1000 (Note: These documents doesn't have version "00".)
In this case, you create 1000 DIRs with version "00", but do not check in any originals in it. Then you create 1000 DIRs with version "01" and this time you check-in originals.

Hi Amaresh Makal
Thanks for your reply.
As per your suggestion if the administer upload version "00" without original e-file, in future the other users will ask for the e-file for version "00", it may create the problems later. So please suggest me if there is any other solution to upload the documents without previous versions.

Harris
Hello Harris,
In standard system there is no other way.
Let all the stake holders understand the system limitations. Explain them, this is the way system is designed. Without previous version DIRs, system will not allow you to create next version.
Once the decision has been taken, ask the business to publish it to users, saying that, "so and so DIRs do not have any originals in the previous version as they are obsolete".
Kind Regards,
Amaresh Makal
