Expiry date

I have a parent material "x" having a component "y". Both are in house manufactured materials and having shelf life and expiry date. Now my requirement is that the expiry date of the  "y" should be the expiry date of  of"x". How can I achieve this. Can anybody help me on this.

Eg

Material: "y"= expiry date =10th Oct 2014. - Batch A

Now I am using this batch " A" of "y" to make "x" and this "x" should have an expiry date - 10th Oct 2014

Try using batch derivation with field VFDAT

I assume X is at header level and Y constitutes as child component in BOM of X.

If you look at batch master in MSC2N / MSC3N you can notice that the batch master varies with respect to material. You can have same batch number for X and Y material codes. But you need to update expiry dates for both separately. You should execute MSC2N two times. Once for material X and batch B then for material Y and batch B. And here you can put the same date.

But, automatically it will not be copied / fetched from X in to Y.

(If you have maintained shelf life period / inspection interval in material master then these dates get automatically copied in batch master.)
