SCOT Config: Message status Transmitted even when mail not received

Hi folks,

I am facing the same error that Vishal posted.

We have SCOT correctly configured on one of our systems. We are able to send external messages.

The problem we are facing is that sometimes some of the sent email bounces(doesn't reaches recepient). But the status on the message sent shows as transmitted.

We tried with couple of wrong mail ids and systems accepts that and forwards the message to it and sets the message status as transmitted.

We checked with our mail admin for the send logs and the mail server has logs for the messeages as failed.

We are working with the option SAPConnect expects receipt confirmation for internet mail.

Any suggestion about it?

Hi Marilia

It seems that the status which is displayed in SAP is the one sent by the Local SMTP server ( which actually sends the mail to the external addresses ) .

If the mail server fails to deliver a message - then it should send a negative acknowledgement to the SAP server ( maybe need to check with the SMTP admin ) .

SAP is generally interested only to send the mails successfully to the SMTP server.

Also have you check the Delivery Confirmation Option .

Thanks

Hello

"sometimes some of the sent email bounces"

This is most probably an issue with the SMTP server relay settings.

Are you able to send the mail from SAP to other users in the same mail domain ?

For eg: SAP is able to send mail to one user in the same company but fails for the other user.

Is the issue only with one user ?

If the issue is with one user then the problem could be with the user mailbox restrictions.

Cheers

Dear Má,

From my understanding,

'Sent' status is showed when SAP is configured for expecting delivery
confirmation (and configured mailserver should also support it), so
SAPCONNECT can confirm if this is a valid email or not.

'Transmitted' is showing in the other case when delivery confirmation
is not configured but message was sucessfull forwarded to configured
mailserver.

1. No confirmation of receipt was requested in the SAP system for the
message.
2. The connected communication system does not support confirmations of
receipt.

So transmitted does not mean it really reached the final recipient email address.

regards,

Paul
