MI Data Entry Screens

Former Member

I am currently working at a client site that is implementing ECC, SRM, BI and PI/XI as part of their Phase 1 Go Live. They are trying to decide whether to implement MI as part of Phase 2. Here are the questions they have to start with :

regarding the availability of Mobile Data Entry Screens in SAP, what is required to implement them.

Here is the information I am looking for...

1. If we were going to purchase scanning hardware and and install wireless communications within a plant, what would we need to do to be able to implement mobile use of SAP on those devices?

2. Do these screens already exist?

3. Do we own them in our current licenses?

4. Will we need to add an additional server (Mobile Infrastructure, etc.) to enable Web Dynpro?

I don't really need to get down into the details of how we would do it (step by step) but something at a higher level. Something along the lines of...You have what you need to enable a mobile environment...you will need to perform the following high level tasks to enable it. Then list the tasks. Any additional detail on tasks (general level of effort required, can be done with internal NGC resources, etc, would also be helpful.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Hi Ricky,

1. Go to SAP Service Marketplace Installtion Guides.

Go to Installation & Upgrade Guides > SAP NetWeaver > Release 04 > Planning

> SAP MI

Here you will find Technical Infrastructure Guide - Mobile Infrastructure

This guide is a starting point for planning the technical infrastructure for mobile solutions based on MI.

It will answer following questions for you.

a) How does it work?

b) How do you set up different connectivity and security scenarios?

c) What works best?

2. SAP has already develped some mobile business solutions like

Mobile Asset Management, Mobile Time & Travell etc.

Go to SAP Service Marketplace Installtion Guides.

Go to Installations & Upgrades >Entry by Application Group> SAP xApps for Mobile Business

Here you will find the info for those mobile applications.

3. MI comes along with SAP Netweaver suite but to use it you need to buy liscence from SAP.

If you have installed SAP Netweaver then it is there but you have to buy liscence for it.

4. MI does not support Webdynpro. Applications developed using Webdynpro can not be used with MI.

Thanks & Regards,

Abhijit
