Installing java sneak preview on top of existing ABAP one - any pointers?

Former Member

Hi,

I have an ABAP sneak preview 640 running. I now look to install the J2EE version on top of it (to make it an ABAP + Java kind of system); this is so I can test some of the new BI functionality that requires J2EE.

Is it as easy as running the setup (for J2EE), and provide parameters just like the ABAP one?

Do I need to do any configurations to make it work as one (or do I even need it?)? Are any connections to be setup additionally after installation?

Is there a license renewal option for J2EE sneak preview (I know it is there for ABAP)?

It is windows XP system, and I am using client 001 as default client in ABAP system.

Has anyone tried this and used the system for BI? Specifically for things like web-application-designer which looks for portal, would this be enough or do I need another portal system in addition?

Any other pointers to things that must be kept in mind while trying this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

i have done this (but couldnt use the new bi functionality. as far the installation is concerned, java engine required minimum of jdk 1.4.2_09 . the installation is quiet easy

Hi,

Actually, you can request a new license key also for a J2EE sneak preview installation, at least one renewal. You can do it <a href="http://service.sap.com/sap/bc/bsp/spn/minisap/minisap.htm">here</a>.

I'm not sure, I found it last december, when my sneak preview expired. I wanted to download the sneak preview again, but on the download page the link is given ;-).

I'm also not sure how many times you can renew it (I'll find out in march if two times is possible).

Hi,

The look-and-feel of the license request page has been slightly changed, but the license renewal option was always there. You can renew it (for both, ABAP and Java) as often as you want, but SAP can change this whenever they want.

Kind regards,

for license renewal we were always referred to

http://www.sap.com/platform/netweaver/minisap.epx

and this service.sap.com link is something new.

<a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/bb493f34-0801-0010-a3bc-ce2821492490">license key documentation</a> points to http://www.sap.com/minisap fro license renewal and in the download section there is not mention about renewing license for j2ee.

Probably download section needs to put in these information there.

Hi,

It is described in the <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/downloaditem?rid=/library/uuid/cfc19866-0401-0010-35b2-dc8158247fb6">download section</a> right in the top section of the page.

For old ABAP versions (below NW2004): <a href="http://www.sap.com/platform/netweaver/minisap.epx">http://www.sap.com/platform/netweaver/minisap.epx</a>

For Java and ABAP versions NW2004 and above: <a href="http://service.sap.com/sap/bc/bsp/spn/minisap/minisap.htm">http://service.sap.com/sap/bc/bsp/spn/minisap/minisap.htm</a>

Perhaps the older page works still for the NW2004s ABAP versions.
