Error: The material number is longer than the length set Message no. BMG140

I have use field MATNR at my ztable.

I have created a table and created table maintenance for maintaining entry via SM30 but  while opening this via SM30 I am getting following error

"

The material number is longer than the length set

Message no. BMG140

Diagnosis

The material number XT1 exceeds the length of 1 characters currently defined for material numbers in Customizing.

Procedure

Either enter a shorter material number or ask your system administrator to increase the allowed length of material numbers in your system.

Information for system administrators

You define the length of material numbers in Customizing for the Material Master. The maximum length allowed is 18 characters.

How to solve this error ?

Hi,

goto IMG path>Logistic general>Material Master>Basic settings>Define output format of article Numbers

or directly check in Tcode:OMSL

where you will see the "Article No. Length:18 (If not defined set threre) and check in your template also.

Hi Varun,

Check the format of your material No. and the no. of characters. in Standard SAP Maximum 18 characters are allowed.

See table  V_TMCNV  in transaction SM30.

Further to this you have to change this with the help of ABAP if required.

share the example material no. for more analysis.

Hi,

  please approch your ABAPr modifie the Mterial number characters, Std SAP mat.no 18 Characters,so you change Ztable MATNR field Characters.
