XI Message Deleting

I do not have any archiving set up, but we do seem to have the default message delete job running on a daily basis (based on viewing log at http:/host:port/mdt/MSArch). But what is actually getting deleted?

On our dev system, I can see successful and failed messages in SXMB_MONI going back nearly 2 years (when we started messing with XI). Based on the SAP library docs, I would have expected any successful messages to be deleted by the default delete program.

Is there something else I need to do to get the "default delete job" to work properly?

Goto SXMB_ADMIN--> Schedule Delete job. (Enter required entries)

This job will delete all the messages(Including failed)

But does the default delete job not really do anything?

Not so easy. First SXMB_ADM / Integration Engine Configuration / Specific Configuration / Parameter DELETION. There you have to customize how long message should remain at MONI.
