NWSapSetup crashes 7.20 & 7.30

Hi folks.

We are currently upgrading our SAP GUI from 7.20 to 7.30. We use a server installation for both versions. We have come across some machines where NWSapSetup crashes at the initial splash screen. The splash screen disappears and nothing happens. I have attached the error log.

On the machines that this occurs the GUI version is 7.20 patch level 5. Even though we have automatic update switched on it seems these machines have not been updating automatically. I've tried installing the latest 7.20 patch (13) manually but NWSapSetup crashes.

I've tried uninstalling SAP GUI and deleting any SAP folder under C:\Program Files but this did not work. I had to perform a system restore to get SAP GUI back on the machine.

Any ideas what may be causing NWSapSetup to crash?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I checked the error file and observed the following:

================================ UNHANDLED EXCEPTION ================================

09:48:07 NwSapFeiLg  1E    Exception: ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xC0000005)

09:48:07 NwSapFeiLg  1E    Fault address: 0x78AB0A37 01:0000FA37

                          \\dkp01\SAPGUI730\Setup\MSVCR100.dll

NWSAPSETUP was terminated. A fix will be delivered as part of patch 21 for SAP Setup 9.0. The release of patch 21 is currently scheduled for the beginning of calendar week 45 (5.11. - 9.11.2012). As a workaround you can reboot the affected machines and then restart the installation.

You can find the patch on SAP Service Marketplace as follows:

https://www.service.sap.com/swdc -> Support Packages and Patches ->

Search for Support Packages and Patches -> Search Term "SAPSETUP" ->

Search Results should contain SAPSETUP????????21?????.EXE.

Please see note 1587566 for more details. Also note that the new version of NwSapSetupAdmin that is delivered with the patch now requires the .Net 4.0 framework.

Please use the latest GUI installation CD and ensure you patch to the latest patch.

You can download the CD from SMP

http://service.sap.com/installations

Browse our Download Catalog

SAP Frontend Components

  SAP GUI FOR WINDOWS

SAP GUI FOR WINDOWS 7.20 CORE

    Installation

You can find the latest patch at the following location.

http://service.sap.com/patches

=>Browse our Download Catalog

=> SAP Frontend Components => SAP GUI FOR WINDOWS

=>SAP GUI FOR WINDOWS 7.xx CORE

=> Win32 and choose your version.

The version of your SAPgui can be found by opening SAPLogon Pad ->
Click on the icon in the top left corner -> About SAPLogon

Please see note 535308 for details on how to download Gui patches.

When patch 21 is released and you are doing a server based installation, start NwSapSetupAdmin and apply the patch for NwSapSetup first and then apply the latest GUI patch.

To ensure a clean PC i.e. removing old GUI completely before reinstalling, you need to follow these steps:

1)deinstall the sapgui with following command line in START -> RUN
    nwsapsetup /uninstall /all
  *you need administrative user rights
Please kindly clear your recycle bin.

2) if the folded below exists, please delete the folder
      C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sap Shared

3) delete all other folders where the sapgui was installed
   c:\program files\sap\Frontend
   C:\Program Files\SAP\Business Explorer
   C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\SAP Front En
   C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Business
      Explorer

4) delete then all "SAP"     entries in the windows  registry in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs
( Please ONLY the SAP  entries )

Now you have a "clean" Workstation. Rebbot the PC.

Install SAPGui.

Hi,

according to the follwing lines:

09:48:03 NwSapsAtlC  1W  Variables-Script: JDK could not be detected!

09:48:03 NwSapsAtlC  1W  Variables-Script: JRE could not be detected!

I suggest to check whether Java is installed correctly or not. Furthermore I can see the line:

09:48:04 NwSapsAtlC  1W  Marking package National Team ({F48B7088-FF59-4A80-BD22-0445A8C10E77}) as disabled: selected node Calendar Synchronisation for Microsoft Outlook ({82A65EF0-F00B-4A4B-9E73-06A8A025E763}) has failing condition.

I would try to deactivate the "Calendar Synchronisation for Microsoft Outlook" in the package, recreate it and test again.

Regards,

Jann
