I know rollout projects means implementing SAP system in multiple plants/units(of same enterprise) based on a global-template prepared. This template is prepared so that business will be stremlined and all units/plants will do their business in same way.

but my question is :

Who prepares the global-template?

Whether the implementation will be carried out at all units/plants simultaneously?

It's obvious that some local plant specific issues will be arised and  will be solved. But how to track these exceptions and do we need to create some new template based on these local-plant-exceptions?

How the local-plant-issues will affect rollingout in other plants?

Pratyusa,

There is no standard method to roll out DP functionality to new business units.

'Who does what' is defined differently in every project.

In all projects, the first step is always always always to discover the business requirements.  What is the existing DP functionality that is currently being used by the business?  How does it work, where does the data come from, how do the existing DP functions work, what business tasks are being performed, how often, etc etc etc.  Then, from the business, they should describe to you what their vision of what the ultimate solution look like, who will be the new users, what are their requirements, what new data will be incorporated, is there enough hardware to support, etc etc.

Once you have a clear understanding of what the existing solution is (as-is) and there is common agreement of what the goal is (to-be), only then can you think about templating.  The business may already have templates from previous rollouts.  The business may decide to create any required new templates themselves, or they may require you to create them.

Implementation method (big-bang vs unit-by-unit) must be decided during the project, usually during realization, based on many factors that you will not know before you have begun your investigations.  If you decide unit by unit, then you first have to determine what the units will be: site-by-site, product line by product line, sales region by sales region, etc etc etc.

Project tracking can be done in any way, it depends upon the policies of the business.  Many businesses have existing tools to track projects, from handwritten clipboards to the most sophisticated third party software methods.  If they have no method, then you use a method that is comfortable for you.

Bottom line:  Every rollout is different.  You must be flexible, and adapt to the business's requirements.
