Oraarch is 100% utilized in short interval

Hi All,

What could be the reason for oraarch directory to get full at high rate?

In one of our system, oraarch is of 60gb total space. It is getting full in a very short interval of time once after every brarchive backup of 30minutes.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Regards

Shanthosh

The database writes the transaction logs (offline redo logs) to the oraarch directory. This means you have a huge amount of data changed on your system. Selects don't create transaction logs only insert/update/deletes.

You have to find who or what is causing these changes and if they are really necessary. Here is an older thread with a similar problem: http://scn.sap.com/thread/1867981

SAP system? BW or ERP? any active event during the time? SP update, data load/migration?

60GB within less than 30 minutes means heavy transactions in your database. Have you try to find out what transactions were running during that particular time? e.g. check your alert file for when directory full alert happened then go to sm37 to find which background jobs active during that time.
