CT04 Characteristics value missing

I have maintained customer classification and characteristics (description & values ) through Cl02 and CT04 transactions. and assigned these characteristics under SPRO--> Sales and Distribution--> Sales -->Sales Documents --> Define characteristics Dispaly for overview screen ...Now while creating sales order for this customer, in the sales order overview screen Configuration Tab, characteristics show up but their respective values (Characteristic values) dont populate. Pease suggest.

when you maintain the at path level  ,

SPRO--> Sales and Distribution--> Sales -->Sales Documents --> Define characteristics Dispaly for overview screen,

here you maintain the required characteristics  under one display name

like DIM ,  check below screen

then

when you create the order , on that you maintain the characteristic   of variant values of line , then go to configuration tab  , select  char. display as DIM ,

then enter then only system sows  characteristic  values ,

like below aacreen

one thing , first you maintain the line item wise configuration  values , those only it sows the configuration tab
